When winter hits, riding motivation tends to drop for the majority of riders. From the reduced temperatures, to the rivers running down the trails, and then the arduous clean-up mission following a ride of any length, winter surely challenges the commitment and mettle of riders around the globe. Waterproof riding gear is essential for a solid half of the year in Scotland, and quality waterproofs make a huge difference to rider comfort when grinding out the miles in the darker months of the year. A separate riding jacket and pants do a fairly good job at keeping you protected, but you’ll inevitably end up with mud down your waistband and water getting through the cracks when the weather is truly miserable. Instead, the ultimate in adverse weather performance is provided by the Waterproof Onesie.

First pioneered by Dirtlej with their Dirt Suit range, an increasing number of offerings are popping up to give riders less excuses to bail on the ride when the weather is less than ideal. I’ve been putting four of the best offerings to the test over the Scottish winter, and it’s safe to say that I’ve been very grateful to have them in my kit bag, improving my comfort on the worst days and regularly leaving me smug while others suffer. Let me talk through these options and help you figure out which Waterproof Onesie to buy.

- Leatt 5.0 Mono Suit - $399.99
- Dirtlej DirtSuit Core Edition - 349,00 €
- Endura MT500 Waterproof One Piece II -$549
- Endura SingleTrack One Piece - $299

My Endura MT500 II ripped easily to disrepair from the smallest of falls. Aftermarket support didn't care so it's 500usd down the drain in a few rides. Be wary of these suits one fall and they can be finished.

with only a base layer and jersey and Mt500II jacket I ride in -10C no problem. I the pockets are so big I can fit my phone, gopro batteries, goggle, battery bank. and there are two of them.

The leatt gear seems to be based and designed for ectomorphs (skinny) people. I myself am a mesomorph type and need one size up on their gear to what it says how you measure up on its sizing guide web page. I am interested in the endura one piece but unsure of how the sizing fits. I might go to a store and try any endura jacket on and see how that fits before I buy a one piece which I can only buy online. By the editor it looks like it's designed to fit mesomorphs nicely which is great. So my measured sizes will hopefully fit exactly. Excellent review by the way. "Update" I been riding with it, it is not entirely water proof during heavy rains "5mm" it seems to leak through the front zip and also my knees "long pants underneath" got wet.

had a crash with Endura MT500 II trousers landed on my butt on the asphalt with some gravel one it. I did a wheelie, rear brake failed cus I neglected it too long, so had air in it, I looped out landed on my butt, but was fine so were the trousers. Only tiny bit of wear, but nothing tore.

The Endura won't work for me, as I need Large trousers, and XXXL MT500 II jacket. And no I am not a body builder. I tried XL and XXL too small wrist area, I use wrist braces, so it did not fit, but XXL almost fit apart from that, but XL was too tight at the armpit, the XXL was a bit tight there too, but usable I guess, but XL was super tight.
torso Lenth on all was long enough. but XL had too short arms. My shoulder, armpit area is quite normal, but seems like it was made for small shoulder area.
But the hood on XXXL was so big it covers my eyes, but arm length and diameter and wrist opening is perfect, gives me proper coverage. But the jacket was a bit baggy at the front.
I wanted to be able to wear my wrist braces and just put the jacket on or take it off without taking off or loosening a wrist brace, or wearing wrist brace over the jacket, which means loosening it if Mobius X8, and taking it off if it's Troy Lee. The XXXL fits well with both Troy Lee and Mobius X8.
I tested the hood both under the full face helmet and over the full face helmet, both worked.
I have 82 inseam so I had to go for Large trousers to get right inseam measurement, so I made the retailer measure it, it was 82cm so I went for it, but the waist was way too loose even with Velcro straps to the max, but they Endura MT500 II and Singletrack II have belt loops, so I was able to use a belt. I have around 31-32 waist.
Singletrack II trousers has much more stretch in the fabric. But they also fold over the pocket zippers so need to move it away.
The ankle opening is big enough, but not too baggy, so using ankle braces, and shoes with gaiter combined won't be an issue. but it's snug enough to not go in the drivetrain.
But Singletrack II jersey fit me well, the sleeve even covers half of the palm of my hand. fit is great, not too baggy, I have 55cm arms. So if need long sleeves but slim enough fit with enough stretch this is an great option.

an offering that has been missed out in this review is the Alpinestars
Tahoe WP 1PC, was this considered in the review process prior to the video? Do you have any experience with it?

Dang! Hadn't hear of 'em before now. PNW riders need to know about these

You are better off with traditional over trousers and a jacket. These suits are expensive, you rip the trousers, you've got the entire suit to replace.

It's been over thought now. Over trousers, Berghaus deluge and any water proof cycling jacket 👍

Would the zipper release on the legs be utilized for taking on and taking off knee pads?
