HashMyFiles a freeware tool to compare file content using MD5, SHA1 and CRC32

This is a quick look at HashMyFiles, an excellent freeware tool that will display a unique MD5, SHA1 or CRC32 hash from your files.

This is very handy when you want to compare the exact content of some files. It has a handy drag and drop interface and is pretty quick at generating the hashes. You can also copy or export the hashes to a text/html/xml file and there is an option to enable the utility as a contextual menu. The tool does not require installation.

In the video I mention being able to determine a file is exact, but of course this unique hash could be faked; from a security perspective MD5 is less secure that SHA1 due to the length of the hash but as with everything online always scan files for viruses and malware to be certain.

Good work 🫶
I made a simple hash tool using java. It was a very worthwhile exercise.👍

Handy utility indeed, but is there one that you can copy and paste two values and let the app compare them automatically as well? Using plain eyesight is not ideal for some. There are sites that do this and was wondering if there's similar freeware out there too (googling didn't turn up anything, but then again it didn't show HashMyFiles per se, just this video).

Thank you for the video. I cannot work out if its possible to import a file with saved hash values into the software. Makes little sense if its not able to, then you cannot compare your original hash to a new hash of the same file some years down the line...
