GitHub: Add an SSH Key

preview_player
Показать описание
You can generate and set up an SSH key for github so that you don't need to always type your username and password when you push. All you need is git bash (or a terminal) and a couple of minutes! In this video I show you how to do it on Windows, but this same method also works for macOS or Linux.

I spent 3 hours trying to figure this out and you were able to help me in 3 minutes. I don't understand why this isn't as clear in Github documentation. Thank you!

Thank you so much... I was so frustrated. I've been trying to get this ssh thing done for 2 hours, with different videos and step by step instructions. Came across your video of 3 minutes and I got it!

At 1:34 I get this error "eval : The term 'eval' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function,
script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path
was included, verify that the path is correct and try again."
EDIT: Used gitbash instead of windows powershell and it WORKED!!! I was lit sitting here for hours because of this simple thing, if you are reading this hope it works for you too!

you have been a life saver. I was watching a GitHub tutorial and they mentioned an SSH key without even explaining on how to create one :/

God, thankyou so much for this, I've been watching a git and github tutorial where it shows how to clone a repo without telling me that I need to generate a SSH key first.

You saved me. For anyone having a problem being that ssh add cannot find the file, just delete the previous key and start over on git bash

Thanks for being a hero because the online guides are not a substitute for someone walking you through it

Thanks so very much for this! This 4 year old, FREE tutorial is way more effective than some of the Udemy courses which I paid for.

To be honest, I didn't get to see the full video because of the written guide. I like it all the same because of how straightforward it is.

You saved

Thank you man! For those who are still struggling with the issue at the very beginning make sure you use Git Bash, otherwise it might not work. For me it didn't work without Git Bash

Thank you, man your tutorial is the only one that worked for me. All the others are like 20 minutes long in poor english, and they explain things like how to push, how to clone something, also they clone things not even using a ssh key they do it manually. Like god damm it, ssh is a thing you only need like 5 commands.
