Me and my Thai wife marriage for 40 years tok over her sisters farm in 2021. Vi moved from Norway to rural Thailand 2022 and have been living her semi permanently since. We return to Norway late spring and will return early fall on permanent basis. Here the other day another Norwegian with his thai wife all of a sudden stood at the gate to our property hence they been told about us. We enjoy our life here and when in Hua hin (some 2 H drive) we had it after a couple of days. Life is good to us in rural Thailand and we are nearly self sufficient. Fresh air, clean water from our own well. Fish pond, vegetables. a lot of fresh seasonal fruits. It is the two of us and we enjoy every minutes away from it all.

Living outside Korat I had to get used to many things. Snakes, scorpions, cockroaches, mosquitoes, dogs running loose. Long commutes to Korat for supplies. Droughts then heavy rain stretches. And that only scratched the surface.

I live in a similar village but in Chonburi. It might surprise you but I can go a month in Chonburi not seeing another foreigner. I don't mind it. Having said that I can drive to Pattaya in 90 mins. I used to go to BKK or Pattaya regularly but I do it less and less now. I still work month on and off so getting back to the village and just relaxing is my favorite time. Everyone is different mind you.

Good morning Les and Ploy, thank you for the video i have built a house in the village in Korat about 9 years ago i get to spend about 6 months of the year there i don't mind the peace and quiet driving a cab around London for 30 years i want to relax no more fast life for me and when i do get bored we go and stay in a nice hotel somewhere, we have been together for 20 years great lady, i have also just built a pond about the same size as yours but i had to put a liner because the water did not come naturally, all the best Ray.

Great video. I live just outside korat. Pru Yai is a lovely, quiet rural area just the right distance from town. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

I can relate to this. My wife and i visit her family in Det Udom once a year and there is nothing to do. For the first couple of days that's nice but anything over that and i begin to get cabin fever. Luckily there's a 711 not too far away so i go down there from time to time, get something to eat and a coffee from amazon and kill an hour or two.

I live in a small village in rural Nakhon Ratchasima and I love it. It has become a special place for me and I would not change it. There are no other ex-pats in our village but locally there are many and we get together twice a week for a few beers in town. There is plenty for me to do here and I can be as busy as I want.

I left Leeds 12yrs ago and never looked back. I met my Thai wife 11yrs ago and we have travelled up and down the country as I was a teacher. My wife is from Non Sung 40ks away from Korat. We moved to my wifes village 4yrs ago which is 5ks away from Non Sung in the sticks. We bought nearly 3 rai of land and have a house and lake built onto it with chicken coop raised beds for crops and fish in the lake. The nearest house to us is 150metres away. As a graduate landscape architect I have lots to do with the land it keeps me going. I get my UK pension in March but it wont stop me from working and designing my land.

I live just outside Buriram in a small village. I would love to live near the coast as like you say life can be same same and not a lot to do. I do have interaction with a small amount of expats. I like my space but also I miss the coast.

Knowing Thailand since more than 44 years now I am 63 of age and lived ans worked for more than 18 years I have been lucky with my wife to built a house on a 3 rai piece of Land which is sufficient to, work on it . I have a pigeonne loft with racing pigeon, a pond with fish and du is and turkeys and chicken and fruit trees and a veggie patch. Luckily I am only less than 2km from the city center of Loei, 5 km from Makro and Big C extra and 6 km from Global house . Perfect combination of country Life style within the city limit and it is quite too. Being a little too far I have many friends who are quite a distance away as you said it can be a challenge ie being a little lonely and not much visit of friends because of the distance

Great video Les. I'm in a very small village about 25 minutes from the nearest little town.

We moved into our new house in November last year.

For the past 5 days our so my gf has been helping out on the family farm. Out at 6:30am and back around 6:30pm. I can do a couple of weeks like this but would not want to do anymore.

She'll also help out on the family rubber farm but that's normally 2-3 hours in the afternoon 3-4 times per week.

When we lived on Phuket she couldn't help out on the farm. 😂😂😂😂

Hi there
I live 30 km from korat in a village not quite like your in, I love that there are next to no foreigners here, more than happy with my own company, always have been, I will talk to anyone but don’t search other immigrants out, I know where to find them if I wanted to but choose not to, I’m not a drinker and believe it or not people get weird when you tell them that, not just here even in the Uk,
Each to their own, I don’t care what people do as long as it’s legal and hurting no one,

Fascinating film Les. Once again thanks for taking time out to put it all together and show us Khun Ploy’s family homestead. Sorry to hear about her Grandmother passing away. Hope everything went as well as can be expected.
I’ve driven up to Amnatcharoen in Issan several times to visit the extended families farm, which is situated just outside the Town. It’s a 7-8 hour drive from the house in North Bangkok and considerably further from the one in Bang Saray.
I really enjoy my visits there but like you point out, I wouldn’t want to live on the farmstead. There’s nothing much to do except admire the incredible countryside. I can’t really do much around the farm but enjoy being part of the local Thai community.
I’m lucky to be able to mix these differing venues together and enjoy an interesting, exciting and varied lifestyle. I really enjoy being part of the Thai community and have a great network of Thai and expat friends.
Best wishes from me here in Pathum Thani, North Bangkok. Hope to actually meet up one day for a coffee.
