73-year-old woman gives birth to twin girls in India

A 73-year-old woman in southern India who has given birth to healthy twin girls may be the oldest woman to conceive. Mangayamma Yaramati started the menopause 25 years ago and so an egg was taken from a donor and fertilised with her 82-year-old husband Sitarama Rajarao’s sperm through IVF. She conceived in the first cycle and was found to be pregnant in January.

What a cruel and selfish thing to do to those two babies. Even if she has plans in place for others to raise the children once she is gone they will still be denied their biological birth mother and father most of their lives. I may be wrong but that is my take on it.

This is unethical malpractice. A 73 year old woman will not live to care for her children, and she would not have been capable of doing this without medical interference. These doctors should be brought up on charges before the UN.

She’s very old! My dad is the youngest of 6 siblings, and my grandma had him when she was about 50-ish. The oldest is about 30 years older than him.
