A walk in Downtown Oberammergau | Passion Play 2022

My first flight to Germany wasn’t without surprises and weird things I never experienced before. Like taking a bus to the airplane while having another airplane preparing to take off right behind us.

In this video we are going to walk the streets of a small town located in the south west of the German state of Bavaria called Oberammergau.

There are many things that makes this place unique, one of them is the strong woodcarving tradition giving you plenty of opportunities to bring home a wood souvenir, there is also the feeling of being Christmas all year round.

Many of the building in Oberammergau are decorated with a technique of mural painting called Frescos. Much of these paintings are religious in nature, however, you can also find painting of kid’s stories like Hansel and Gretel, and the Little red riding hood.

One of the biggest things that makes Oberammergau unique is its Passion Play Celebration. This tradition started around the year 1634 as a promise to God for liberating the town from the Bubonic Plague. In recent times the production depicting the life of Jesus Christ is played once every ten years and attracts people from all over the world.

Oberammergau is a community where time sometimes feels frozen, and where modern life meets the traditional. As a result, you’re likely to spot some residents dressed in colorful folk costumes when a local holiday roll around.

Being situated in a scenic valley and surrounded by the forested mountains of the Ammergau Alps, makes Oberammergau a paradise for nature-lovers.

I've been watching all the videos about Oberammergau because I am planning to visit this town before the passion play 2022 ends. What I'm hoping to see is information about accommodations close to the train station as I am travelling by public transport. In addition, I am a 72 year old petite woman travelling alone. So accommodation closest to a transport system - bus or train - is really important for me. I hope someone out there would include this type of information in their vlog. Thank you.
