These were incredible trucks. At the presentation of the new DAF trucks, they had one of the last Dakar monsters in the show. The sound when they started these two powerplants was like thunder!
It must be like an earthquake, when this huge thing moves thru the desert with more than 200im/h!

Jan de Rooy was a legend in the Dakar, he had a transport company specialized in truck transport, he died January 2024.
He was from the county where DAF is made and the DAF people simply realised the wildest ideas for Dakar DAF's with de Rooy, like the Turbo twin that also had two engines but also a DAF cab on each end of the truck!

The "Rally Derivatives" from this era were absolute magic to drive, especially in the snow and ice on the lovely winding roads of Scotland. Managed to get an Opel Manta GTE which made driving a joy as the road holding of this 2 litre rear WD was the best I have ever driven (in more than 60 years)
