Raven-Symoné and Demi Lovato sat down for a conversation as part of the new documentary Child Star, co-directed by Lovato. Non-binary pop star Demi Lovato has enlisted a line-up of queer stars for a new documentary about young performers. Child Star shows the highs and the lows of growing up in the spotlight, as Lovato did, and includes conversations with other former very young stars. Lovato made her directorial debut by bringing the 90-minute programme to Hulu.

Raven was honest and also showed her grace

Raven already knew what was up but she understands that Demi at her young age drank the cool aid and didn't hold it against her. I love that for both of them. There is love, accountability, and also empathy

I’m not a fan of DL but I’ll say, in this documentary she was told a few times over that she wasn’t nice to work with and she never refuted the statements. She did provide explanations but not in the sense of excusing herself. She got a point there.

Demi is very flawed and open, and I appreciate her willingness to listen, even when she’s faced with ugly parts of herself.

It's so beautiful that she basically said "give yourself more credit" like yeah you weren't super friendly but you also weren't awful 🤷‍♀️ and it's ok cause I could see you were going through something

Okay THIS is so important. We have to normalize giving context to the mistakes made through the lens of mental health struggles without it being interpreted as "making excuses".

Just watched the show. For those saying she needs to take accountability, I think she did do that throughout the show. She also apologized to Alyson Stoner for making the set of Camp Rock 2 difficult.

I love that 1, Demi knew that she wasn't the nicest person and never denies it. She accepts it. 2, Raven isn't holding a grudge and is graceful enough to not go into details. She gives her the respect and space to understand that "hey, this person was going through something"

For those saying “just take accountability no one wants excuses” she is taking accountability by saying she knows she treated her poorly and she is providing an explanation (not an excuse) as to why. It’s easy to say that mental illness is not an excuse for treating people badly, and it isn’t, but its also okay for people to lend themselves grace by reminding themselves and sometimes others that they were fighting for their damn life some days and were doing their best. It’s not pretty, but when we really have to look at our actions, sometimes the only way to cope with the guilt of our past that day is to remind ourselves “I was doing my best.”

They BOTH gone through that dissociation/ lack of memories. That should tell you something...

I see this captioned like this everywhere dude. They said they were terrible and Raven kindly corrected to "not the nicest but". In context it was actually if anything a sweet thing to say goddamn

Forgiveness and grace. I love to see women come together and support each other by acknowledging their past pain.

The glaze over the eyes it such a palpable understanding of the situation raven saw Demi in. I love how she said she didn’t hold it against her.

This comment section is crazy. People are impossible. They want the perfect apology and try to beat people down when they try to heal. Demis situation is different. She went through alot as a kid. Even after her overdose people still bullied her. And she is literally trying to apologize to Raven here. And raven never said she was rude, or mean, or a bully or anything. She said she wasn’t the nicest person and demi isn’t making excuses. She has a valid point as to why

Actually there are lots of actors who have said they dissociate and barely remember the filming. Raven had also said that about the cosby show. We need to talk about why this is happening? And the “glaze”. It’s all kinda creepy.

I love how accountability and honesty is being had and a conversation without argument😊

dissociation is one of the scariest things to go through mentally. I wish I could say I don't know what it's like but that shits horrifying.

it really shows demi's journey with therapy that when she gets called out for "being difficult" she gives context but doesnt try to shift the blame from herself. she understands that despite her not being herself at that time bc of all that was going one, she still was the one making those mistakes and choices, so she must face the consequences of them. really brave and cool of her to do that
