The song wasn't made in 1821, however it was made to commemorate the greek revolutionaries much later.

The cover was sung by Glykeria, a talented musician.

Thank you for sharing this version. So unusual for me to hear a female singing it but she sang it very well. Beautiful lyrics and so well written. I grew up listening to this song and countless other Greek songs. Long live Greece! ❤🌹

Justin McCarthy estimates that approximately five and a half million Ottoman Empire citizens, Turks and Muslims were expelled from Europe between 1821 and 1922, and more than five million were killed or died of disease or starvation while fleeing.[22] Ethnic cleansing occurred as a result of the Greek independence in the 1820s and 1830s, the War of 1877 and 1878, the Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913, Armenian rebellions and bandits during and after World War I, and the Greek occupation of Anatolia during the Turkish War of Independence. Michael Mann describes these actions as a 1914 Carnegie Endowment report describing them as a brutal ethnic cleansing on a scale never seen before in Europe.[23][24] It is estimated that at the turn of the 20th century, 4.4 million Ottoman Empire citizens, Turks and Muslims lived in the Ottoman-controlled areas of the Balkans.[25] According to Mariya Todorova, more than a million Ottoman Empire citizens, Turks and Muslims left the Balkans in the last 30 years of the 19th century.[26] Between 1912 and 1926, nearly 2.9 million Ottoman Turks and Muslims were either killed or forced to migrate to Turkey.[25] There are estimates that 2.5 million Turks and Muslims died in Anatolia during World War I and the Turkish War of Independence.[27]

There were also massacres committed by Armenian gangs in the Caucasus at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. There is various information from different sources about the losses during this period. While Justin McCarthy stated that 260 thousand people went missing during the 93 War, Kemal Karpat claims that 300 thousand people were killed. Armenian anti-Muslim movements continued in the region at the beginning of the 20th century and during World War I, and attacks were carried out against villages.
