This isn't really how to become a process server, it is "how to start a successful process serving business". I wanted to learn the former, but as a small business owner, i am VERY impressed with this guy's general business acumen. This assumes you know how to become a process server (some jurisdictions require specific licensing, some companies require specific training or education), so it focuses on giving you the 411 on how to start a successful serving business as an independent operator. But a lot of the recommendations here pertain to starting ANY business. I encourage anyone who is a small business person, entrepreneur (especially if you are early in your journey!) or business person to watch this.

Very nicely done, and no neck tie required lol... I think you covered a lot of great points that most all other videos don't. I have been considering process serving for a couple of years but I have had a very busy all consuming full time job until recently... I have everything I could ever need to do this work except for knowing how to get started... Thanks

In Virginia, you do not need a license to serve. The information in this video was very informative. Thank you so much for this!!!

Thanks, Bro!!! I just got started as an independent process server. So far, all collections...Walmart credit card collections. Your tips were spot on! Especially the sneaky tip. Rolling up the paperwork was very helpful too! I used to just have it in hand like I'm delivering roses or something. Thanks, man!

I've only begun looking into this career field but it's definitely interesting me. Even scrolling through some of the comments on here with legit questions and good solid answers from you has gave me a better spectrum of this.

Hey man, Love the videos! I'm aspiring to Serve papers, and was wondering, Can you get clients before you have your license? then follow up getting your license to do the job or do you need your license before you get clients? I can't wait to start but I'm at this step considering which to do first. Thank you!

I've been thinking about becoming a process server. I have been in property management for too many years and I'm getting burn out. I use process server every month for the dead beats who don't pay. This is what made me think of becoming a process server. Question: if they refuse to sign, do the courts usually take your oath the papers were served?

Actually the licensing only applies to state matters- You don't need a license to serve federal process, which is governed by Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Rule 4(c) which states that ANY PERSON whom is at least age 18 or older and Not a Party to the case may serve a civil summons and complaint originating out of any United States District Court. (The federal courts only recognize two forms of action- being civil and criminal). Fed. R. Civ. P. Rule 45 has a similar provision regarding federal subpoenas in a civil case. However, there are certain federal documents that cannot be served by process server. These documents are usually required by their terms to be served by the United States Marshall or an FBI special agent. However, the state "rules" never apply by reason of the tenth amendment because the tenth amendment to the U.S. constitution prohibits the states from regulating the procedural processes of either Article I or Article III federal courts.

I wonder if a hidden body cam would be a feasible tool? For proofing purposes.

Thanks. Greeeeat video. I had a few questions. 1) Any more tips on successfully getting clients because that sounds challenging to me? 2) How late at night do you have to be out serving? 4) How many times do you have to go back before being able to deem a particular serve non-serviceable and therefore still be paid for that serve? 3) Is that $100 an hour after all expenses, like gas, etc.? If not, what is the true hourly wage? Thanks so so much.
