Gen Alpha might have brain rot, but are they really worse than older generations? At least they’re not swallowing live goldfish to dominate Nemo like the Silent Generation or cramming 20 people into a phone booth like the Boomers liked doing! So who’s the real menace here?

As an adult I already feel the effect of short videos on my attention span. I can't imagine how vulnerable a child must be

It's gone from "do you know where your kids are" to "do you know what rabbit hole your kids are in."

Giving your kid an iPad is like giving them alcohol to chill them out.

I was ELEVEN when my parents finally said, "Okay. You're old enough to pay attention to adults at the dinner table. No more video games". And I learned how to close my NINTENDO DS FIRST GEN and be a person. It actually felt good to be addressed at the table instead of shoved away to a book or kiddie scenario.

This was 2006.

As a gen z i've been feeling the impact of "brain rot" lately, I feel like I'm spiraling so I've been trying to get off my phone and get back into some hobbies. I can't imagine how some of these kids feel.

This is unbelievably true, I’m a gen Z and I work at a fancy restaurant, yet I see parents bringing their kids in with iPads and just let them sit however they please in the booth while the parents eat. I understand if you don’t want to get a babysitter to watch them at home but if you’re going to bring them out into public let alone a very nice restaurant at least teach them how to eat a meal with their family without needing a device. It made me so so happy when I saw a little girl come in one day with a piece of paper and some crayons. Sure, she wan’t much engaged with the rest of the table but at least she was doing something that involved her imagination and brain, and I encourage that any day over having they art laid before them on a screen.

Too many times I see a young child in a stroller watching something on a parent’s phone. It has become a babysitter, unfortunately.

I used to have amazing focus all throughout college, and it definitely helped that I stayed OFF of social media. But then I graduated, couldn't find a career, and I spent a year mindlessly scrolling. Now my mind is fried. I wish I could get back on track, but here I am.

The problem isn't the kids or the technology, it's the (lack of) parenting! There is no discipline, no structure, no boundaries, and the kids are suffering for it!

Its unfair for good parents too, even if you limit brain rot content or screen time your child will find it via their friends

Millennial here and I am experiencing brain rot. I have noticed that over time my attention span has gradually reduced. I used to be the biggest cinephile, I had over 500 horror films on dvd, seen thousands, listened to long horror podcasts, read horror novels... A decade later and I can barely listen to a 20 minutes podcast or watch a 20 minute short on YouTube. I haven't been able to concentrate on a book in years. I'm not addicted to social media, I'm only on Fb and haven't posted on there for a good 4 months, but I do watch a lot of Reels and YouTube Shorts. Then wonder why I can't concentrate on something for more than 10 mins 🙄🙄

I agree with banning cellphone use in schools. At work many places force you to keep your iPhone in your locker. Why are KIDS allow to have them when they are supposed to be learning?

"Mom and dad need a break, so they gave the kid an iPad." I understand that COVID was an unpredictable situation that strained a lot of things, but if you aren't willing to manage your children, then don't have them.

The film Idiocracy perfectly sums up our future society. The movie was originally comedy in 2006, a documentary in 2015, until finally becoming a horror movie in 2022. It is probably the most relatable film I have ever seen regarding our future society in a very literal sense.

I was born in 97, so I grew up with the internet and being a gamer. And that is exactly why I will not let my kids follow the same path as I did. I'll get them a dumb phone so I can atleast contact them if needed and make sure they play outside and understand that technology is supposed to serve us. Not us to be slaves to it.

12:26 As a high school student in France nearing graduation, I can honestly say I’m grateful for the cell-phone ban law they introduced back in 2019. Looking back, it really helped me focus and sparked my interest in science when I was young. Now, I’m specializing in Physics-Chemistry and Math! I should mention the ban only applies to elementary and middle school, not high school. I think that’s a good balance, especially since our high school days here are very long (typically from 7:30 AM to 5:10 PM). Having the freedom to relax during lunch breaks or regular 15mn breaks with some music or videos is such a great way to recharge.
