Italian here, i've been to new York like six months ago and I tasted a few pizza of course. The dough is generally really good the problem is the tomato sauce 😮 it's too sweet and too greasy, it really makes pizza taste heavier and less fresh than it should

I went 5 years ago personally to Lombardi's because I was told that this was the very first italian pizzeria in New York. Quality was very good, well done! Lovely location as well

Mama’s too really is the best! Also on the Upper West Side is pizza collective - but they do Roman slices rather than New York so very different from these. They have many great toppings and are great quality

Bens Pizzeria on W 3rd and MacDougal (seen in the opening of _Louie_ ) is the best real pizza. All the "top" places are riding on yt reactions.
AND, E 40th btwn 5th and Madison, south side of street. Don't know name, but they use a light sourdough that's really tasty and unique.
