John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer said it best, you don't workout your pitching issues in the closer's role Mr. Garrett. As a team, organization, you don't trade your closer to the Angels for chump change in return. That money, about 5 mil, wasn't spent to improve the team anywhere. Suarez is quickly becoming a candidate for DFA. Move him to 8th in the batting order. Trade him for a closer, bring in a defensive SS. Since he is only hitting
.150 bring that kid up from Louisville. He can do no worse. Reds have zero overall team speed so they pretend they do and are running into outs on the bases. Liking Manager David Bell is NOT the same as GOOD Manager David Bell. Dusty Baker was liked also. Reds have an interesting corps of starting pitching. They have a lineup of one dimensional hitters swinging for the fences. Hit or miss (occasional HR vs. Strikeout) makes highlight reels for the former but does not consistently win games over the course of a season. Cannot hit and run as the whiffs run into outs. Didn't this team learn anything from the Braves in postseason a year ago? Nope. Average pitching stumps HR hitting. Finally congrats to one of the streakest hitters the Reds ever had in Jay Bruce on his retirement at age 34 with a .110 BA.
