Flying with my mom for the first time as a Private Pilot

In this video I take my mom up as my first passenger after I passed my private pilot checkride! Hope you enjoy :)

Throughout this experience I definitely learned a lot about controlling not only the plane, but also taking responsibility to explain what is expected of passengers and enforcing rules to ensure the safety of the flight. For obvious reasons my mom was very, VERY excited to fly with me, as was I, and I new I needed to explain what I expect of her while flying, i.e. no talking when I say so or when ATC is talking, minimizing distractions during key phases of flight, etc. There are a few things I could've done better, as well as a few things I'm really happy with how they turned out. I'm excited to take more family members up soon!

Kaden, I enjoyed your flight so much. I am a 2, 000 hr pilot but I almost cried watching you with your mom doing what you did. I started late in my pilot's life and did not have the chance to take my Dad or my Mom on any of my flights. It was beautiful to see your mom's reactions. It seems you have a great mom and she has a good son. Blessings to you and if you ever come to Orlando, Florida
I will take you up and let you flight my Tiger. Thank you for letting me live a moment that I never lived.

This brings back a sweet memory. My mom was always adventurous and took lessons in a tailwheel Taylorcraft when she was in WW2 in the Women's Army Corps (WAC). She stopped her lessons just before soloing. Fast forward many years to 1984 and the day after I passed my Private exam I called Mom and told her to look out her 19th floor window (she lived in a condo on the ocean). I flew out over the ocean, did a broad descending circle to her altitude and as I flew by she was waving a handkerchief out the window. A few weeks later I took her up as one of my first passengers. I had her take the yoke and she did pretty well and loved the entire flight. She's gone now but that was a moment that will always linger for me and it was great to see Kaden and his mom enjoying such an experience together.

I did this exact flight 30 years ago. It was the first and last time I was able to tell my mom what to do or what not to do. Lol.

G'day mate. I'm a former Air Force pilot. Don't feel bad thinking you could have done things better, you'll have that feeling your entire pilot life! You did great, and your mother looks and should be proud of you. Well done - especially noting it's your first flight after getting your PPL

Remember:
A good landing is one where you live.
A great landing is one where you get to use the aircraft again

:D

Glad I ran across your video. It was almost like watching a replay from my first flight after getting my PPL. My mom was also my first passenger. She wanted to talk WAY more than yours though hahaha. Congrats on your license!

The mom asking so many questions, and saying so much stuff is so relatable 😂

Also, the taking pictures

I like that you debriefed yourself. Thats a mark of a professional. You did a good job staying focused on the job at hand. Having spent time with some very good pilots and USMC veterans, I would just say that it's good practice to talk everything out. Yeah, you're talking to yourself and not a copilot for redundant checks, but there is something to be said about hearing yourself talk through the procedures and checklists. Especially on take off and pre landings.

My mom was also my first passenger. She took a video which I watched every single day for about three weeks straight. I still smile when I see it. Loved your video, it reminded me of her ❤️

I bet your mom is super proud! My daughter sent me this video, she’s 13 and working on her hours for her license. She asked me to be her first passenger and I felt so honor that she asked me first. Good luck with your future ❤

Love this. If my son took me on a flight, i would be absolutely blown away (especially because he’s 18 months old). But you could see how stoked she was and proud when they touched down! Great vid dude.

I'll never forget that feeling when I first got my Private certificate, took all of my friends and family up. One of the greatest feelings in the world. Keep up the vids and hard work man <3

How cool to be able to take your mum for a flight, you could see she was beyond proud of her babies accomplishments, and you can tell he's going to be one hell of a pilot!, good video!!!!

This was so cute man! I am glad your mom got to experience that. She did all the parents thing, took cute pictures and ask questions so cool. Can’t wait to take my parents up with my PPL.

I'm a CFI with 600+ hours, I still think there's something I can do better every single flight and it will be that way when I reach 20, 000+ hours. Keep that mentality and don't fall into the complacency trap! My folks were my first pax when I got my ppl. Props to my mom for going since she's really afraid of heights!

Loved your video. My husband is a pilot n he had me practice landings here in Alaska because his friend had a heart attack once, was lucky his wife was with him to land the plane. He was able to communicate with her thank God. So then I had to learn. Don't tell anyone but I think was a good idea. My husband said I should get my pilots license as I did great, landing the plane every time. You did a great job n glad your mom was along
