India, China Reach Six-Point Consensus on Border Peace and Bilateral Relations | India Today Global
Показать описание
India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing for the first time in five years, reaching a six-point consensus to maintain peace along the border and promote the healthy development of bilateral relations. During their Special Representatives dialogue, both sides assessed the border situation and agreed to continue implementing the solutions they reached in previous negotiations. The two officials emphasized the importance of not allowing border issues to disrupt the overall relationship between the two nations. They also agreed to strengthen management and control mechanisms in the border area, enhance confidence-building measures, and facilitate cross-border exchanges, including the resumption of Indian pilgrimages to Tibet and increased trade through the Nathula border. The Special Representatives' mechanism, established in 2003, is set to play a crucial role in advancing these discussions. The talks follow a period of heightened tensions due to the military standoff in Eastern Ladakh, which began in May 2020. However, following an agreement on disengagement, ties between the two countries are now poised for improvement. Doval also met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, who emphasized the importance of India-China cooperation on the global stage.
