I saw Jeff with Journey back in 2006, I wasn't sure what to expect but he was amazing, he totally nailed it.

I actually saw Jeff on this tour opening for Def Leppard and JSS was stellar. It was a great show!

Jeff was wonderful on that tour. We all knew he could sing, and then he did Journey. Awesome. I loved that show.
JSS, a stand up guy.

Whether the original singer has passed away or not is immaterial. Living or dead, the replacement singer will most times be judged by how close he comes to the original singer. These iconic singers leave such an impact on their fans. Jeff's voice has too much weight to it compared to Perry's high Tenor. As great as JSS is, the Journey repertoire would have proven too much for him.

Probably, didn't help that Jeff (allegedly) sued the band after they fired him, when according to Neal, " ... we took really, really good care of him ...", related to the fact they paid him off, handsomely. Of course, I wasn't there, but I did read the interviews after Soto left, and there is clearly another side to Jeff's version. Also, his forays into the press, saying that the band (Journey) were now so much better equipped to move into new ground, with him in it, was slightly arrogant. and disrespectful to both the Steve's. I must admit, I lost interest after they let Steve Augeri go, he was, and is, a great, great, singer, and, at least, he was creating an exciting new era, when now they are seemingly content living off the memories. Don't misunderstand me, great for them, but it doesn't interest me.

Soto's one of my all-time favorite singers. This is the only guy who I would ever suggest as a replacement for Ronnie James Dio as far as vocal tone and talent.

I saw Journey in 1983 on the Frontiers Tour at the peak of their greatness. Every day without Steve Perry is another step closer to oblivion. Without Perry, there is no Journey. And now no Steve Smit, no Ross Valery. Neil Schon is touring a cover band. I’m keeping my memories, thanks.

I was a huge JSS fan before. I am also a huge Journey fan. When Neal and JSS combined and recorded Soul Sirkus, it was dream come true. That album is fire. Why the Hell isn’t it available on iTunes? What they did to JSS was complete BS.. I was extremely excited when he was announced as the lead singer. As much as I love the band, they need to come clean on the reason. JSS is a good dude and didn’t deserve any of that BS.

Just for the record: the drummer in the still shot at 0:42 seconds is Virgil Donati. When did Virgil Donati hook up with these guys and what were they called?

I loved that Jeff owned the songs according to his talent and abilities! He killed it! Of course it’s not Steve Perry, there is only one! But what Jeff did was to bring a genuine performance and a great personal vocal sound that complimented that Perry era; not copy it! There is no copying an original.
My hat’s off to Jeff, he brought new shoes to a band that had no way of filling those original blue suede shoes of Perry.
Sucks the way the band, or should I say Neal Schon fired Jeff with no respect or even a reason.
I will say that Arnel is able to carry those vocals long term; however with his accent, and some people can’t get over that. Perry did what was right for him. His voice would be completely gone had he not stopped.

I loved hearing him as their singer when I saw them on the '06 Def Leppard tour. Personally I think he is a million times better than Arnel

He was too metal for them... Jeff is a beast. I love me some Journey, but Journey did not deserve Jeff...

I have no disrespect to JSS but he needs to realize that Journey basically did the same thing to all of their front men, Steve Perry. They fired Steve Perry after he needed hip surgery. Their response to Perry was '"go on tour or you're fired". Steve chose his health and well being over touring. I say good for him. The rest is history. True a casual Journey listener probably would not have known this. Those of us who are die hard fans DO KNOW! In my opinion (and this is just my opinion) Arnel was the best replacement for Perry. I heard him by chance while walking through the electronics section of a store and heard what I thought was Steve Perry. So of course I doubled back to watch. Boy was I ever surprised. There was Arnel belting out Perry's voice. So dude, you may be a good singer and all but don't think you are irreplaceable. Oh and the comment about Queen. When Freddie passed away, they not only lost Freddie ( the best front man ever), they lost John Deacon as well (an excellent bassist and songwriter as well). I love Queen but you cannot replace Freddie and John. Queen really hasn't come up with any new material since then. Just my opinion.
