another use, is you can sprinkle them in and mix into your compost for potted plants, they soak up excess water and then slowly release that water back into the soil, extremly helpful for those that have a tendency to forget to water

My locker at the pool was getting very funky from my gear being damp and I started tossing a few silica packets in to dry it out. It works great.

We have a 3D printer, we store the filament rolls in Ziploc gallon-size freezer bags & I put one of those packets in the center of each spool when I put it in the bag whenever I change colors. While we do keep them in a cool/dry/dark place, we still make sure there's a silica packet in each roll.

After your silica gel packets absorb moisture from the air or wet items, place them uncovered in your refrigerator to extract the water out of them. They can be reused after that for protectibg from moisture damage. After I receive a package with "new" silica gel pack, I place them in the refrigerator to extract any water they may have a required during product shipment or storage.

I have been saving these for years. Never let anyone throw them away.

I agree with Zenkakuji that we should rejuvenate the packs. I choose the oven instead of refrigerator. I put oven at 250 degrees F, keep them on a cookie sheet for an hour or so. Just like you do for a [chips, crisps, salty snack] that lost crispness. You can turn off the oven and let the temperature coast down for another half hour or so, it is still a dry environment. With the refrigerator, when you take the packet out, it instantly condenses water from the air, and the packet is used up.

I use them in my hearing aid case to keep moisture away. I saved money on purchasing a separate special container.

I have a ziplock bag full of them. I almost never throw them away. So far I've primarily used them to help maintain the sanitation of my backpack, putting one at the bottom of each compartment. I launder the backpack every few months, and replace the packets with new ones each time I do that.

Wow, thanks so much. I'd never heard about this little hack before. I have a massive comic book collection that I inherited over 24 years ago & have dragged with me to every house that I moved to. I've got no idea how much they're worth, but I've always thought of them as being somewhat of a back up plan if I was ever in need of $. I know that there's some old Marvels in there that ppl keep telling me that now's the time to sell. However, I really can't be bothered with going through them all, to make up a giant list of what's all there. So in the meantime, they're carefully stored away, in these long boxes, each comic book in it's own plastic cover with even a piece of cardboard. Even still though, I've always worried about moisture, over the years, so this idea is brilliant for me. I can't thank you enough for the info.

I've been saving theses from the hardware I use at work for years . I use them to dry flowers. I also use them to keep my hard candy at work from getting soggy and sticky from the humidity..They also work well for drying fresh herbs for simmering potpourri.

I kind of like the musty smell from old books. They take me back to my childhood.

They don't last forever. Unless stored in sealed container they will go "bad" . Then full of mosture they have to be dryed. Put in oven at low temperature. Might do same in microwave, but I've never tried that.

I already never throw those away... I also constantly use them when storing the filament for my 3D printer.
