Our mission is to encourage, empower, and inspire people to live a life that Blesses God, in accordance with His word. As the Psalmist proclaims, "Bless God in the great congregation, the Lord, O you who are of Israel's fountain" (Psalm 68:26 ESV), and "Every day will I bless Thee; and I will praise Thy name forever and ever" (Psalm 145:2 KJV). Just as Simeon, after encountering Jesus, "took him up in his arms and blessed God" (Luke 2:28 ESV), we seek to lead others in a life of stewardship, relevant engagement, and practical living that honors and blesses the Lord.

I notice this a lot with people who don’t struggle with things like depression or addiction. They just don’t understand it, because they can’t. I used to be very judgmental towards people who struggled with addiction. I looked down on them. A few years later, it happened to me. I struggled with alcohol addiction AND depression. So now I see both sides. Addiction and depression are very real, and they aren’t something you can just turn off or just get over. I believe sometimes God does deliver some people from these things, but sometimes they remain as a thorn in our side. We have human bodies, and our organs, including our brain, will get sick. But one day we will be free of them and receive our new bodies! I can’t wait! ☺️

This is why it’s so important for me to finish my degree. We need more christians in the psychology field. Knowing the Word is also important to practice the field so we can look at different possibilities and be able to help with a christian mentality. As the mother of an autistic kid, another who learned how to deal naturally with his ADHD, knowing how the brain develops and works its important for every parent.

As a Christian that suffers from p.t.s.d., severe anxiety, and depression . Mental illness is as real as our Lord and saviour Jesus . There are scriptures that help but sometimes medication is needed . I find peace in Christ . I recognize my triggers and avoid them . Thank you Lord for giving the great gift of eternal life . God bless, and peace .

With respect, what he says is not only preposterous but also dangerous. It puts the blame on mental health sufferers and could potentially exacerbate their conditions. People need hope and encouragement, not blame and criticism.

I am a suicide survivor and my wife has been diagnosed with depression and PTSD. The church we were a part of, and it was a huge part of our lives, taught things like this. It only made things worse. We had to get out. And they blame us for that, too. Crazy!

As a survivor of child abuse, PTSD is real. However, as a 4th year psychology student, a lot of the “mental illness” we’re seeing in kids is from too much screen time. If parents detox their kids from devices, a whole range of problems clear up within a few months.
The problem with people like John MacArthur is something psychologists call the Dunning-Kruger effect: he knows just enough to delude himself into thinking he’s an expert when the reality is he looks foolish to anyone who has actually studied the brain and nervous system.

I've been wary of this guy for a while. This just solidified it.

I was really disappointed when Redeemed Zoomer agreed with McArthur on mental health of all things. I get being skeptical about individual claims of mental illness but to say it's all just an excuse is downright dangerous.

Over diagnosed yes… but it does exist.

Also, God is the only fix for any illness

Do I think that mental and emotional issues are over diagnosed and over prescribed, yes. Some emotional swings are just part of the cycle of life. Do I think some people need help and support from any and every source available? Absolutely! I am of the age when there was a draft to send young men to Viet Nam. You cannot say that the PTSD many experienced was not real. On another issue, if you live your life following the Lord only good will follow? Try reading Job, try talking to people who experienced the Great Depression, try reading about the farmers who lived through the dust bowl, try reading about the people who settled the west, try reading about the lives of the Apostles. Having faith and living a life following the Lord was never said to be easy.

I'm a clinical psychologist, and college professor in psychology. I'm also a devout catholic. I have invested more than 10 years in training, and what John MacArthur is doing is absolutely irresponsible, 'cause it's misleading. This is really worrying.

Trauma rewires these pathways associated with emotions, empathy, and bodily understanding, potentially leading to difficulties in learning and decision-making.
Structural Changes:
Childhood trauma can lead to structural changes in specific brain regions:
Amygdala Enlargement: The amygdala, which plays a role in emotional responses, can enlarge due to trauma.
Hippocampus Shrinkage: The hippocampus, critical for memory and processing traumatic experiences, may shrink. John Macarthur expecting people with a physically damaged brain to heal themselves is like expecting someone with a damaged organ to heal them selves. 'Oh you had to work in a toxic air environment and its damaged your lungs has it, well if you try harder your lungs can repair themselves and you can keep on working.'

I was a child protection social worker on the frontline for 26 years. I heard and saw terrible things. I had PTSD, along with involuntary vomiting in the morning from stress, and insomnia. Its real.

Why would anyone take what he says about this stuff seriously?! The church needs to drop the celebrity pastor thing quickly!

This is why I never got help or treated my depression and mental illness. I was constantly listening to John MacArthur and many other like minded individuals in my Church. I ended up going back to drugs at the time because I really didn't know how to deal with things going on in my head. I finally got the medication I have needed for years and finally consistently walking with the Lord. The reality is sometimes we need the tools God has given us on earth to heal. Physically mentally and spiritually. Its very upsetting that so many will hear this nonsense and believe it. Coming from someone who is well off and never faced as much as others in his life. He has no idea.

I'm a born again Christian and both my mother and son suffered from mental illness, it is very real, I suppose like cancer or diabetes it just happens to effect the brain By the Grace of all mighty God, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ my son was born again and he so loved the Lord even in his affliction. I lost him in July of 22 at the age of 35 to heart arithmeya. I found him, my precious son who is now with the love of his life Jesus Christ. Personally I have a great love and heart for the mentally ill, starting with my mother whom we just understood early on she was ill. My gratitude to the Lord that one day no more sickness and no more death.

Struggled with anxiety, chronic depression, and PTSD for a number of years. I have gone back and forth on my beliefs on healing over the past few years. Ive landed at a place where i can comfortably say that while God may heal there is mystery in the way we encounter healing. Its irresponsible to make blanket statements for complex issues. And i believe MaCarthur and ofbers will be held accountable for their teachings and the woundings they have caused.

As someone who was recently shot 7 times and luckily through the grace of God survived, PTSD is real and even further depression is very real and sometimes uncontrollable. Pray for these people.

PTSD not being real is insane. As a veteran, this guy needs to be held accountable for spouting this garbage.
