Feeding Dairy Cows a Total Mixed Ration

Mixing Feed for Cows - In this video I am out at a Dairy Farm in Indiana as they mix feed to feed their dairy cow herd. The farm is using their Deutz Fahr 6215 tractor and Penta 1030 Hurricane triple screw mixer to mix and feed the cows and loading the mixer they are using their Gehl R165 skid steer loader and Cat 924G wheel loader.

They mix different rations up depending on the group of cows they are feeding with different ingredients to make a total mixed ration of feed that is best for the cows.

Love the Deutz tractor. Have some old ones with air cooled engines on the out lying farms, they are extremely fuel efficient.

Great Video Mike, there's a couple of things that come to my attention, the 1st being a tractor that i doubt ever leaves the concrete with 4WD when a truck would do the same job, the second seems to be a significant amount of expensive feed being wasted on concrete both in the yard and in the shed, I come from a pasture based system in NZ, at least any lost feed in our system would decay and provide nutrients for the next crop, thanks for sharing

Love machines that make all sorts of noises. Watched Farmer P drive the newer MF 5 around and had to watch it like a hawk to know that he was doing anything at all with it. That said, the Doot sounding like a 3phase turbo blown high torque electric motor would get old fairly quick XD

Loved this video!! I grew up on a dairy farm and it brought back some good memories. We never fed the cows like that lol. All back breaking throwing square bales down from the hay mow. Please make more dairy cow videos lol.

A great video Mike, I was hoping to see the scales the loaders were using to keep the mix balanced correctly. I understand that different cows get different blends of feed also.
