My fantastic parents bought me a used 2600 VCS for my 8th or 9th birthday… either way it was the early eighties and probably my most memorable birthday present of all time…. The games that came with it were Combat, Space Invaders, Pac Man, Breakout and MASH….. I spent many afternoons and evenings playing games on my little B&W portable TV in my bedroom. Sometimes I used to play it on the colour TV downstairs… but I have very fond memories… and now forty years on…. they’re rereleasing these great consoles with new games and it’s just

I LOVED the Atari Pac-Man. Don’t know why everyone always 💩 on it. When it came out, that’s all we played.

Yar’s Revenge is my all time favorite game. I just dropped an Atari flashback 2 into an old briefcase with an lcd to make a retro mobile gaming system

I wanna buy my own Atari 2600, and a bunch of games too. I just want to feel the old school gaming, the official Atari Experience!

The Atari 2600 is indeed the big grandfather of home consoles as far as SUCCESSFUL systems are concerned, before Nintendo or Sony laid eyes.

But, technically speaking, it is not the first ever created console. The Magnavox Odyssey predates it five years in 1972.

That's the VCS for retro purists😅
I recall one grade school friend had one in 1978 or early 79, he lived around the rich folks 😅
Recall VCS Space invaders marathons through 1980, then buying my first one complete in box second hand from next door neighbors early 1981 or late 1980 when they bought an Intellivision.
Sold that VCS in 82 or 83 to pay for a Colecovision.
Been collecting golden Age consoles ever since.
Telegames and Atari 6 and 4 switch, Telegames and Mattel Intv and intv2 with voice module, several 2600jrs.
Imo the Jr is the perfect daily beater and travel unit. Built tough with no switches sticking out, small fits in portable DVD cases like caselogic, same power supply as VCS vs 7800, assuming the Jr plays everything the 6/4 switchers do

I was born in 1992. My first consoles were the NES/SNES. i was interested in retro gaming for many years but would only buy stuff i had as a kid. But i recently found on Walmarts website an Atari 2600 (picture was the iconic 4-Switch Woody) so i bought it and turns out they shipped me a Vader edition i wasnt even aware of, and then yesterday i ordered the 2600+. I also picked up an Intellivision 2 for practically nothing a week or so ago

Imagine the new Atari 2600+ with built in retrocompatibility for the 2600 and the 7800

Soooo... Would that make The Magnavox Odyssey (released in September of 1972 respectively) the great granddaddy of home video games? Lol

Space Invaders is the absolute best game for the Atari 2600 and they refuse to license it to the Flashback series (I do not know why), you get Taito's arcade ROM for Space Invaders...

I wanted Atari 2600 so badly when it launched. I just checked inflation calculator and found that it's equivalent to $1, 014.82 in today's dollars. I can't blame my parents for not buying this for me.

I was too young to realize what a crappy port Pac-Man was on the Atari, and I poured hours & hours into that game. I can still here the bad sfx now.

So Atari 2600 released right before _IT_ happens 24 years later
