When I saw this movie at 13, it opened a new door for me. It pictured how I felt at the moment, young naive, unsure on how to «act» in this new adult-child phase, the pressure of not being enough and of course, the aesthetic and music that connected directly to my teenage soul. I knew, at this very moment, I wanted to be a director.

This has long been one of my favorite movies, but you managed to open up a whole new dimension of it up for me.

Wow, what an analysis. Now I feel an undeniable texture to the movie I had't noticed before. Thanks.

Well, she might be the product of nepotism... but she has made really good movies!!! Lost in Translation is a masterpiece, and Marie Antoinette too.

Really thoughtful film analysis of very sensitive themes of dynasties and nepotism we know the curse of Kennedy (the insane careless behavior of rich people is programmed in their genes probably) but we also know that every living Kennedy must be a politician good bad talented who cares, same with Bush II. But people touch rich people except for very beautiful charismatic and acclaimed rich people aka showbusiness rich people go out of the public radar, they are untouchable's references to the Italian mafia where 90% is an image of a tough and stylish gangster.
Movie trope airhead Melanie Griffith's "Working Girl" a very cryptic movie about the 80s corporate ladder plus airhead of 80s "Miami Vice" actor Don Johnson we get Dakota Fanning and the most famous porno movie dedicated to women audience "50 Shades of Grey" about billionaire Wall Street broker with very strange preferences. the reality of today compare to France in Versailles is very and very very very bleak.

Your essays are all amazing. Seems to me SC might be remaking a short film she cowrote with her father as part of the New York Stories trilogy. Very similar themes emerge. Life without Zoe is the second short of the three.

Sofia Coppola didnt start out bland like that because she was really on to something with works like Virgin Suicides and Lost In Translation but for some reason, she lost her music along the way.

What a casualty. Some days ago I watched Chinatown, and the very next day watched Marie Antoinette. Turns out they're somehow connected.

There are a lot of coincidences in Hollywood - so Nepotism is almost inevitable.
Diversity doesn't seem to be a word they like!

Coppola's selfsatisfaction
one side narrow view
superficial swallow
it's not deep.

😢 I don't care if she comes from privilege 😮or the gutter. She's fabulous! Why make it an issue? Let's lift up the minority of women writers.😊

You try so hard to be deep that you miss the point of the whole film
