Are Expensive Dyson Products Repairable? That's what I'll be finding out in this first video of my new video series: Are They Repairable? Nope! I have a Dyson fan, hair dryer, and vacuum that I'll be working on to see what all is wrong and if I can fix it.

The intro killed me! "We're going to find out on my new series called: 'Are They Repairable? NOPE!" 😆😆😆
Also: I just bought a rowing machine after seeing the sponsor ad and also learning what it actually does for your body.

I loved that the circuit board DEEP inside the fan where regular customers should never see had a warning on it "USE ONLY IN DRY LOCATIONS". I get why it's there, just found it humorous.

This video reminded me of what life for me was like in the 80's and 90's when products were just beginning to be sold with life cycles in mind and the right to repair idea was still far off in the future. While others began to simply replace their broken items, I would tear mine apart A) to find out how they work, B ) figure out it was usually some form of junk that was wedged somewhere it shouldn't be, or C) some cable was disconnected or loose. I never tried to fix any boards since that was seldom the problem, and I had no idea how to do that until later. Besides, simply taking the things apart worked 80-90% of the time at finding the issue. Ended up saving thousands over the years simply by investing in the tools to take them apart.

Good job embarking on a series like this, while it may not end up teaching everyone exactly how to fix their own stuff, it may encourage those who don't think they have the skills to give it a try and maybe save themselves a few bucks in the process.

Last year I found a broken Dyson V7 at Goodwill… same color as yours but with the long extension and motorhead. Someone had already replaced the battery and the motor with rear filter and trigger housing, which is the main part so I’m sure they were frustrated. Found the brand new motor was seized from the factory until I took it apart and gave it a few manual turns. Works great now! Reminds me of a “crunchy” 24x slimline Teac CD-ROM from decades ago although manually freeing it up only got it to work once or twice. :(

It’s nice to see you healthy again! 😊. God bless you!

Sadly, the hair dryer is a fake one. For this version of counterfeit, if you read the warning under the blow hole, there are typos. And it didn't have the GFCI plug.

Our Dyson vacuum is over 16 years old. We’ve replaced parts with offbrand replicas (because it’s so old and Dyson don’t sell them any more) and resoldered the on/off switch, but it’s still kicking!

Yes! I love this type of work, being in appliance repair. Most repairs are mainly easy and basic non maintenance issues. Great video!

Great video 👍🏼
I love to fix things but I’m still running a bagged vacuum I bought over 15 years ago for $50 and it’s still going strong 😅
Amazed at how expensive and non repairable things have become

The series title alone earned you the upvote, the rest of the video deserves another.

1:42 I actually love that design because replacing the cord is quite easy.

I have that EXACT vacuum with the exact same problem...now I can fix it, even though it only means a new battery pack. Perfect timing!

We have gotten over ten years out of Dyson vacuum, it works so good, its also broken some plastic parts that we found on eBay, but 20$ fixes I can stand!

"It's a bummer this thing isn't working, I can't vacuum up my workbench" HAHA made me chuckle

I have disassembled many things that are secured by plastic clips. I have played that game of "Release clip B and clip A is now locked again".
My solution was to just make my own tools for the purpose. I use engine oil dipsticks. I cut them to size and bend them with a sharp right angle so they resemble the letter " L". Then I finish them off by smoothing out the cuts and tapering the ends.
Having several of these will help you avoid playing the game.

I bought an AC unit from Black and Decker before, cost me about £600. Put it away for storage and the next year when I went to use it, the damned thing wouldn't turn on. I got onto BnD and they sent a replacement out for free, and just asked me to cut the power cord off and send them a photo of it.

I found out it was just a resistor that had blown, soldered a new one on (which cost me about £1), repaired the cable and bingo! It came back to life. I recieved the new AC unit, sold the older one as refurbished. Pretty much got a free AC unit! haha

The only reason I was able to do it or even had the idea to do it was thanks to you, TronicsFix! It felt amazing

Love these videos. Shows that repairs are not magic and how you can break down a big unknown into small "know-able" steps!

19:29 I so glad my version of that (it was call the animal) has a little button on the handle that pops the battery pack off the bottom.
