Thank you to everyone who watched our previous video and asked questions. We realized there were still many questions we didn't answer in the first video so here is a follow up. PLUS we will show how we pot up our onions prior to planting them outdoors. We hope we answered all your questions but if we forgot any, please ask in the comments. Happy gardening!

A clarification pointed out by one of our astute viewers: when I was talking about spacing and planting depth I cut to shots from last years onions which had no soil or root ball. This is because we experimented last year and planted all our onions in 1020 flats (no cells) last year. It was a pain to untangle all of them prior to planting so this year we went back to planting them in 72 cell trays. When planting from the cell trays we plant the whole root ball as you would a conventional transplant. I should have explained that in the video! Thanks for pointing that out @israeledenbeherenow !

I used to think why grow onions because they're so cheap. Until I grew onions and found out how much better they are. And to be able to go pick an onion when needed and know what they grew in! They are wonderful. I will always grow onions.

I have watched another video of a guy from Austrailia who crowds them in when he transplants them. This allows him to thin out by using the onions as he needs them but helps control weeds too. The ones that he doesn't use then get bigger. I thought it was a cool concept. I may try it and see what happens. I've never grown onions before, so i am learning so much. I am learning so much from you all about starting the seeds. Thank you!

I like the idea of starting in a to-go container and up-potting them.

Thank you so much for the series, I am looking forward to learning more once you transplant & set a fertilizing schedule outdoors.

I'm so glad I found your channel! First year doing onions and I am doing them in soil blocking. I am viewing the whole thing as an experiment so we will see how they do. I love your garden. I bet it is such a joy to work in.

Can you please to broccoli next! I’ve been following you for a year and am starting my seeds as you post these videos to follow along and I’m learning so much. I think broccoli and peppers are next according my Seedtime schedule so I’d love to see those!

Another very helpful video! I take in every little tip you put out there. I can't wait to get my garden going this yr. Onions will be planted today! Chard is already an inch tall. I keep chard growing all winter, keep a homemade green house over it, here in Missouri, and put blankets over it in extreme temps. Never have to buy greens for smoothies!🎉thanks again for your videos

Hello from PA zone 6B! We were totally newbies. You have the best site I’ve seen thus far. ❤ Love it. And we have looked at a lot! Have a small 40 x 20 garden area to work with. The scheduling part is so confusing you have everything so organized! Have you ever considered doing a chart for 6B planting seedlings, transplanting and then for inground planting? ❤ that would help us so much! We do have more land and have done pumpkins and potatoes in the open field, but we’re totally winging it!

Honestly I don't garden for food savings,
But compare prices 15:43 can be compared to the groceries market produce they would certainly need to upgrade their produce then they would need to increase their bargain prices and only then we could figure if they are anyway to save money and have great veggies.
I'm 70 plus and love my veggies.
Thanks for helping me/us.
Highly agree with your fertilizer answer depending upon the soil conditions first most importantly.
I'm subscribed and liked what you're doing with your food.
Thanks again

Hey there,
Awesome video and a great part 2.
However still not all questions are answered if i check the comments, so maybe a part 3...?

Here are my questions:
- how much light should i give my onions and is there a difference for short day or long day?
- can i fertilise with a compost or worm casting tea? The reason i ask is because in the netherlands there I can't find good N liquid fertilisers.

I botched my onions so bad last summer by trimming off too much of the greens, at least that's what I think happened. Thank you for these informational onion videos, I'm giving it another go this coming year and because of you, will be trying seeds as well 🙂 I'm in Central CT, zone 6b as well, so I better get those started this week. 🧅😊
