I’d use the money I save buying the 105 (about $300) and invest in lighter bar/stem/seatpost so my bike would be as light or lighter than if I had bought the Ultegra. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good points! I'm a big fan of the R8000 pedals, but longer cage derailleurs, aero mud-catching cranks, and heavy chains are not good! 5800/6800 nicely used second hand parts are great value!

Like those Hyper wheels on the second bike with the Ultegra. That makes it faster than those training wheels on the 105 bike.

Agree with the comment about the R8000 barrel adjuster, but it's easily sorted just substitute the R8000 adjuster for a 6800 adjuster, works well.

chains might be the same weight but the more expensive ones wear slower especially with 12sp

Nope..I disagree. I had ultegra and 105 mechanical..I noticed that the ultegra would shift alot quicker and smoother under loads than the 105...the mechanical ultegra sometimes would shift quieter(not faster) than the ultegra di2 12speed I have on my SL7 tarmac..

For someone who can afford 2 Litespeed, perhaps you should sell the Ultegra groupset and upgrade to Shimano 105 R7100 12-speed mechanical

The last good ultegra was 6500. Then it started getting blocky and ugly. Imo.
