The Beach Boys certainly didn't have a shortage of hits back in the day, but that's because the band was unified back then. These days, the band is a disjointed mess.

On one side, you have Brian Wilson and Al Jardine strongly condemning Mike Love and his use of the band's name. Wilson has even called for fans to boycott their performances. Then you have Mike Love, who feels perfectly justified using the band's name because, in his opinion, he's the real centerpiece of the formerly united quintet.

Brian Wilson and Mike Love have been at odds with each other for almost half a century now. When Pet Sounds was released in 1966, marking a striking departure from the bands previously bubblegum surf pop sound, Love felt like he had been cheated out of his prominent role in the outfit.

Love has also taken Wilson to court several times disputing which songs he should be credited for. He has subsequently won the right to be the sole licensee of the band's name.

Wilson's drug abuse issues and mental health struggles forced him to leave the band many years ago, but in truth, the Beach Boys wouldn't have been the Beach Boys without him. These days, however, Wilson and Love seem to be bitterly divided.

I think if 1/5th of a band is touring, that’s a solo act. “Mike Love from The Beach Boys”!! Not the entire band. Not only is it missing the most integral link of the band, Brian Wilson, but it’s missing Dennis, Carl and Al. Mike Love didn’t like Pet Sounds, and only wanted to chase the money. Pet Sounds is regarded as one of the best albums of all time. That should tell anyone who isn’t convinced on this issue everything you need to know.

If it weren't for Brian's great mind, then they would never have been remembered today. Pet sounds is #2 of the 500 greatest albums of all time on Rolling Stones, and that was ALL Brian Wilson's producing and writing. Even though time can't go back and finish SMiLE, at least Brian is still alive and doing his own thing.

He left amicably, was a kind, gentle guy, and clearly looked up to Brian.

You gotta include Al as a beach boy he did all of Brian's falsetto's for many years on the road and some would say that Brian's falsetto's never sounded better than when Al sang them .

Brian Wilson IS The Beach Boys, flat and simple ! Granted mike love was an integral part, but where would he be without the BB’s . Hell, thinking about it, David Marks was a founder and driving the surf venue .knowing what I know now, love and his band are mute to me ! Have been a Beach Boy fan since ‘62 and have spent a small fortune on concerts and everything recorded, I am dismayed. All in all, the sound will live forever, that’s all that matters !

The Beach Boys without Brian Wilson is nothing but a knock off version. The original group is who I fell in love with. When Denny and Carl died something inside of me died. I followed them from the beginning. To be the Beach Boys you gotta have them work as a team. I am old now too. And wiser. Its time for the hatchet to be buried.Bring Brian back to the fold. Miss them very much.

I so loved the Beach Boys as a teenager, in the ‘60’s! Best times & listening to the “ORIGINAL BEACH BOYS” was the absolute best! They were one of my favorite groups as a kid & I have seen them preform( I am referring to the original members of this phenomenal group from the 1960’s) in concert, multiple times! Loved them so much! I have seen them numerous times through the yrs. I just saw them only a couple yrs ago, at The Eastern States Exposition ( biggest fair on east coast!) in West Spfld., Ma, Mohegan Sun Casino & various venues in area( Florida too)! Naturally with Carl & Dennis sadly passed THE BEACH BOYS will never ever sound the same, or “BE” the same, as it was in their hey days when all the originals were there! I even saw them play at Symphony Hall in Spfld., Ma when Glenn Campbell had stepped in to play guitar when I was 13 or 14! I loved their music then & still love listening to their music now! The band now w/ only one, possibly two( when I saw them through the yrs.) is great to hear those familiar songs I have always loved. It will never sound the same or be the same without the originals naturally but great hearing those first familiar cords of Fun! Fun! Fun!, SURFING USA, IN MY ROOM, or SLOOP JOHN B. Instantly I am transported back in time to innocent, happy times of my teenage yrs! Wonderful friends & such happy memories come flooding back, as I listen to those favorite songs!!! I will always love The Beach Boys & May Dennis & Carl, REST IN PEACE!❤️💕❤️💕❤️💕
