It works even better when you realize that "Dan Dan Kokomo Hikareteku" literally means "Bit by bit you are charming my heart" and the first chorus goes something like
"Bit by bit you are charming my heart
with that dazzling smile of yours
Let's fly away from this endless darkness! Hold my hand!"
And the entire song is basically a serenade about a charming someone that came into our life, reminded us of something or someplace when we were a child, and swept us away from the darkness. The original song obviously refers to Goku but it works remarkably well as a love song
