Jason, I've recently been experimenting with cross-band repeating for emergency scenarios and have had some great results.

With my Anytone 578 in the Jeep I can crossband repeat pretty much anything (including APRS with no computer involved).

There's some pretty nifty things you can do like APRS (as mentioned), DMR (can use same freq and different time slot with a cheap Pistar hotspot) making a easily deployed portable repeater connected to the network.

Can do straight analog crossband repeating...another nifty thing you can do is have your mobile output to the input of a repeater and use your HT in the house (this works in situations where you can hear the repeater but can't be heard because you're low power on a HT).

Of course there's the legalities of identifying every 10 mins which apply always. That being said, knowing how to do these things in an emergency is a good skill to have, IMHO.

Very Cool video.. There are a lot of hams out there that ready don't care for APRS.. My self I have been APRS back when it was only ran on DOS, Still run it today WIDE DIGI I-GATE both truck and a I-Gate only in our RV... Try to get some setup on a big run they have every year.. But no takers.. Thanks again for the cool APRS Video.. 73's

You drove to the point where you got in the boat. You needed another digipeater in what you drove to get in the boat. I am not sure if the points that went in went through the digipeater at your camper or made it without that digipeater. Not sure if it would work going from the HT to mobile to camper then to where it would go to internet. Is there a number of relays it can do!

Great stuff, Jason! I wonder what the elevation between the West and East side of that lake is. The data points you showed were at 890+ ft so that must be a heckuva a hill in between! :) Have fun in Huntsville!

APRS.if needs to implement the topography map from Google Maps. That would make identifying possible geographic obstructions a little bit more easier for someone not familiar with the area. I know there’s a topographic map in Google Maps. Thanks for the video Jason! 73!

Hey Jason, are you involved with the Short Mountain repeater club by chance? I am a new ham with the Bedford County group. I have the G90, any tips or basic videos to recommend to get started with digital? BEGINNER!!! 😀

Your videos are great! I've been considering using my pi for build a pi, I currently have my pi running a dmr hotspot. My question is, is it possible to maintain my dmr hotspot but add build a pi for when I pack it up to take portable and then back again to dmr when I'm back in the shack?
I would like to implement digipeater and winlink

5 watts with a full battery? What does the radio do with reduced battery capacity(voltage)?

I have never digipeated portable, but I have Igate/digipeated from home using my IC-7100 and Direwolf running on a Linux Mint desktop. Summer is busy, but I have plans to make a stand a lone Igate/digipeater so it can stay operational when I use the 7100 for all the other great ham stuff it can do. Longer term I want to do HF APRS. I love your experimenting. I found it interesting, difficult at times, and very educational.

Jason can you point me to a tutorial on how to setup paths? For instance what was your HT Path and what is the Digi Path? I know this was a high level 7 min video but maybe a long format path and setup video would be a great thing. Thanks!

Absolutely love your videos! I am studying for my tech currently. Would love to link up one day to learn as much as I can from you in person. I'm your neighbor over in Chapel Hill.
