The 2006 (18th annual) World Music Awards were held in London, England and hosted by actress and vocalist Lindsay Lohan on 15 November 2006.[1] Performances included a Thriller recreation by Chris Brown and a children's chorus rendition of "We Are the World" with Michael Jackson. This was Jackson's final live performance.

The Diamond Award honors those recording-artists who have sold over 100 million albums during their career. Past recipients include Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Rod Stewart and Bon Jovi. This year's recipient was Michael Jackson. His most popular album, "Thriller" has sold more than 104 million copies worldwide since its release in 1982 - making it the best-selling album of all time.

You have celebs, stars, mega stars, famous people and then you have Michael Jackson. He stood alone.

Michael Jackson didn't have to do anything.. he didn't have to perform... He's so famous that just his presence, just being there, was enough to please the fans... Very few people can do that.

No other artist gets this kind of reaction. Only MJ.

He was ridiculed, humiliated and tortured before this event happened but look at how he was so loved by his fans. It's so heart-warming

I’m SO PLEASED Michael got to experience this LOVE after that horrific trial and before his death. I hope he knew, just how much we loved him! The media does NOT represent me! I respect Michael and I love him and I’m so thankful to him for all that he gave us and the world 🙏

Unbelievable. It's 2006 after all the trial shit and virtually every media broadcasted: MJ is done, MJ is history. He stands there still the boss and his fans screaming louder and crying harder than ever. Even the famous people can't believe they're watching him :-)))

I was there in first row.... totally deaf after the show, my ears hurt people were screaming so much... NOTHING ever will compare to this. He didn't have to do anything, just show up and walk and people would scream and cry - that's the effect he had on people, just his presence was making you go crazy. Miss him so much :(

I'm so glad he got to experience this moment after what happened to him. You could sense he was scared to go on stage but once he walked over to the crowd and felt their overwhelming support, he knew he was still loved. And once he took off his jacket and threw it, he seamlessly transitioned back into King of Pop mode -- it was like he went back in time to 1988. The media always tried to tear this man down but his fans never wavered. We love you Michael ♥

I've just watched this for the first time since I worked on this show. Seeing all your comments compelled me to write this post to set the record straight and to let you all know how Michael was really feeling that night. What the press wrote the next day was completely inaccurate. Michael was terrified about walking out on that stage as it was only a few months since he was acquitted. He was so frightened about the possible negative reaction he would get. We had to halt the show to enable us to persuade him to come out of his dressing room! Beyonce was amazing, she helped persuade him to go on stage. When he finally made it to the stage the screams were beyond deafening and in my 30 years in the business, I have never witnessed anything like that. The screams, the tears and the fainting was the most incredible thing to see. The press reported the next day that he did not perform and let his fans down. That is simply not true. He wanted to sing but it was impossible due to the noise of the crowd. He was overwhelmed and so very humbled by the reception he received.

When I listen to his music, I sometimes forget that he's gone. There's so much of his life and energy and love in each of his songs.

The love in that entire Auditorium was extremely overwhelming. Fans were reacting as if he did a full concert! No other celebrity gets this much respect!!!

Those who shed tears are truly his genuine fans. I felt their tears too; it showed how much they missed and loved him. Even though he didn’t perform, the crowd went crazy just being in his presence. We loved and missed you, Michael Jackson. You’ll always be forever in our hearts. Your songs and music will endure for generations to come.
