Meson Theory of Nuclear Forces & Estimation of Mass of Pion
Показать описание
Hideki Yukawa in 1935, provided one of the first explanations of the nuclear force. He said that the nuclear force is the result of a continuous exchange of a class of particles (called pi mesons or pions) between neutrons and protons. Nucleons continuously emit and absorb pions. In the neighborhood of another nucleon, one particle might absorb the pion released by the other which results in a transfer of momentum and therefore the effect of a force. This is known as the meson theory of nuclear forces, as pions belong to a category of nuclear forces known as 'mesons'.
Yukawa also provided an estimation of the mass of the pion particle using Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, which was later validated by the discovery of such particles.
