150 Miles on the ELECTRIC Motorcycle YOU NEED TO RIDE! | Land Moto District Review

ECR spent 150 miles (and 5 full charge cycles) aboard the Land Moto District. The Land Moto District is an electric motorcycle designed and built right here in the USA. It has 17kW of peak power and a nominal power of 11.5kW. This eMoto has a variety of 72 volt batteries to choose from, being a 1.8kWh single battery option, a dual 1.8kWh battery option for a total of 3.6 kWh, which is what this bike is running, or one big 5kWh battery pack.

The Land Moto District is suspended by an inverted, non-adjustable cartridge style fork and a fox float EVOL air shock.

It’s got 17” wheels front and rear and this Scrambler build has the optional Shinko 244 dual sport tires tires.

Riders can select a low shock for a seat height of 30” or a high shock for a seat height of 31”, when paired with the Shinko tires on this Scrambler, it gives the bike a seat height of 33”. The District weighs between 181 pounds and 217 pounds, depending which battery you’re running. This build weighs 207 pounds.

To stop the District, the bike is fitted with Magura dual piston brakes, front and rear.

The District comes in a bunch of different configurations but the current MSRP starts at $7,800. This fully street legal 3.6kWh Scrambler model that I’m testing will run you $9,700 and you can find the bike for sale on the ECR marketplace.

In terms of battery range on the Land Moto District, there are several different battery configurations for this bike. With the dual 1.8kWh option on this bike, at high speeds of 55-60mph, in mode 4, I went 15.4 miles until battery 1 went from 100% to 10%, at which point I need to switch to the 2nd battery. After both batteries were depleted down to 10%, I had gone a total of roughly 31 miles.

When riding around town at lower speeds, still in mode 4, my battery range was improved, seeing roughly 24 miles per 1.8kWh battery pack, or 48 miles total.

Land claims a max range of 80 miles when riding in Ride Mode 1, which seems like it could be possible if ridden very conservatively.

Some things I hope to be changed or added to the District would be some improvements on the rear turn signals. I think they look slick and clean but each of the two District’s I’ve ridden had broken turn signals, so it seems that these need to be reinforced somehow.

I really wish the bike had regenerative modes, which is something that Land Moto said they’re testing and could be as simple as a software update. I don’t want the feature for regenerating power as much as I want to feel some engine braking when I’m decelerating or entering turns.

I've heard that the turn signals are not positioned well. I agree that a way to switch over from one battery to the other without stopping would be a good option. This is really their first model and if they can survive (and I hope they do) then I'm sure that changes will be made. Also, the seat can be designed with comfort and still look good. If I lived in a house I would get one for local commuting. At the same time I would be very worried parking this at the supermarket or on the street and walking away because it will attract the wrong attention and in a city environment I can see it be stolen even with the anti theft systems incorporated into the bike. Becasue of it's great looks you would need to be in eyesite of the bike at all times.

Been waiting for a good review of this bike. Been following the company since they made their CCW gas bikes.

Yup the rear turn signals need to be addressed for sure, seen that already as well. We brought ours out to Houston for a ride and it did very well all around the city. Perfect city/commute bike for sure. Love how stable it feels at speed, and how smooth the power delivery comes on. Power modes 1-2 are very underwhelming but would be fantastic for a new rider whose never been on 2 wheels before.

I got to ride one in mode 1 while at the electrofy expo. It was very nice but I agree. The price is a bit high for something that appears less than premium. If an item looks striped down to the basics… I’d like the price to reflect that too. Nice review. Also, what helmet and jacket are you wearing?

Y'all need to check out some Indian ebikes, they are able to get alot more range from smaller battery packs.

Here are a few:-
Ola S1 Pro
Tork Kratos R
Ultraviolet F77

That wire unplugging to swap batteries is easily replaced by a switch. At that price it should actually be a voltage-sensing DPTT industrial relay performing automatically, perhaps with an auxiliary relay showing on the display which battery is in use. I mean my cell phone could do this if it was dual battery, and the relay and module might add $400 in cost to manufacturer. Seems with that and the air shock without a coil, this thing may have some nagging maintenance issues. The price is high enough it needs to be very robust and reliable, no fiddling with wires.

9k for a city bike and not highway is kinda tough bullet to bite..

I've been keeping an eye on this bike over the years, and I've been impressed. As a beginner I don't see all the negatives that most other experienced electric motorcycle riders see.

Something you did mention, the size. You called it a " mini " motorcycle. I'm around 6'3'' and a bit heavier than average, I'm not sure I'd fit comfortably on a "mini " motorcycle, unless you just meant it was smaller than a full size?

I wish there were more "reviews" of the company than the products they claim they'll make. Are they another fake EV company? Will they be around for more than 1 year? Are they well managed? Have they secured skilled and reliable employees and the needed production space? I couldn't care less about it's performance. LAND Energy is a brand new "company" funded by investors through Crunchbase. If it's just the one guy and a few of his buddies, it's the exact same formula as countless other "EV companies" that get funding and disappear.

I can't wait until this type of product is about 1/3 the price it is now. I was apparently born about 20 years too soon. If we can't have flying cars we need a lot of stuff like this. Amazing.

I’m in Colorado also do we have to register that as a motorcycle here?

The Zero FX beats this bike in every way. Faster, better range, Way better looking, better off road.

Fantastic review but I think a few minutes more about the battery would have been cool as this is the only bike I've seen where you can plug thing into the battery to power them

As someone with no motorcycle riding experience but wants a bike, I want to justify why I should buy this electric motorcycle over something like an ICE Svartpilen 401 or a Ninja Z400, both of which are thousands of dollars cheaper. I live in an apartment building (no garage of my own), so would the lower maintenance of an e-moto offset some of the cost? Or am I just reaching for excuses? Does the District still require me to buy insurance like a regular bike? Am I allowed to take this on bike paths if it doesn't have pedals?

I love the District, but it IS very expensive for the limited range that you get compared to so many ICE bikes.

Why wouldn't you get a Sonders Metacycle with nearly twice the range and half the price?

Is it maxed out in that ratio ?Or is there a wire you can cut or software you can change to make it faster?

We are still in a world of making a lot of compromises on all electric motorcycles. Either price, weight, range or power. If you are super idealistic about going electric, that would be the only compelling reason to get one for now. I think motos that will be on par with gas are coming but are probably 5 years out still. I have a 2017 DRZ 400sm and it does all this and more. Got it for $4k and it's cherry. Like the idea and am glad people are trying. Keep trying guys!!

I just ordered this bike and I’m looking to build a battery rack in my solar room to charge the battery by solar. Do you have the dimensions of the battery??
