What Is Flutter and Should You Focus on It?

Google has another mobile app development product called Flutter. So what is Flutter, and is this something you should be focusing on and using? We'll be talking about what it's all about, how it works, and more in today's video.

This video is brought to you by the Learn Programming Academy's Spring Framework Masterclass:

My name is Tim Buchalka and I have put together a series of videos which I call the "Programming Tip of the Day". And basically, each video goes through talking about some of the pitfalls and things that you'll need to overcome to succeed as a programmer, things like overcoming frustration and keeping yourself motivated.

In this series I will also answer common questions about choosing a programming language to learn, questions about your career path and things of that nature. Now there's a lot of other things as well that I'll cover in these videos and I'm also opening the lines for you to tell me what you want me to cover.

Now I've been a programmer for over 35 years so I think I'm really qualified to answer a lot of these questions. So if you do have a question, pop the question in the comments section of this video and I'll do my best to address that in a future video.

If you're ready to look at the next tip, click on the link below to get redirected to the playlist for all programming tips:

Hi Tim. When are you going to start a flutter course? I'm eager to attend.

Flutter would be a mainstream thing just after couple of years; therefore, when the companies would start looking for Flutter developers then you would be able to get the job as *Senior Flutter Developer* if you start your journey now; you see, you would then have couple of years of experience already!

And, about the *Native* language; Flutter would be the Native Language for *Google Fuchsia* . You would eventually end up being a *Native Developer* then.

And, yes; I totally agree with Tim here. You would not get much job offer at this moment with your flutter back-ground, however, on the freelance market the demand is increasing rapidly.

Starting your Flutter journey at this moment would be like planting a Tree, you would not get the fruits just after planting it, however, after couple of years, you would be sitting on a gold-mine or something haha

Flutter has good intentions, but I could not get over the package quality and never-ending environment/update hoops. If I had to pick a cross-platform solution Ionic Framework is such a joy to use. It's really coming into its own, especially with Capacitor to replace Cordova. I've done native for both iOS and Android too, but Ionic is still my preference. Has Flutter gotten any better in the past year or so since I was using it? Would love to hear some thoughts from others.

hey so, one thing i have really been noticing doing my CS learning is that there are soo many different languages and frame works. how do you decide which one to learn and which one are more important than others. like as a employee are you expected to know c, c++, java, js, jquey, ruby.. and so on there alot of programs to learn how do you learn from all lol

Well done, Tim, to the point and not at all perky. If I ever decide to go with cross-platform I will probably use Xamarin but since the days of OS/2 and Windows, which only an expert could visually distinguish, I remain skeptical about cross-platform. But I hate Java because it legitimized throw so I would rather write dual native apps and use Kotlin for Android, and I have your course.

I have a question which might be worth answering in a video as I've seen it in a few places before.

Do you need any artistic skills to become a front-end developer?

Hello Tim, what do you think about React Native for cross-paltform dev ? It's a good alternative of kotline, Swift, Xamarin or Flutter ? Thanks for videos, you make a very good job!

As I'm counting on completing Java, I see Kotlin coming in front and now see Dart, as you say not yet necessary to move on to these right now but mind gets heavy thinking where I'm right now compared to others who are also on path to enter job market as a fresher, these things make mind nervous. Please advice.

Hey Tim I'm currently studying your java course and i want to be an android developer, so should i choice android studio or flutter, i want to go with flutter becuase i think it will be the future but if i go that direction what will happen to the time i spend on Java will it help me to understand Dart or it will be a waste of time that i spend on java, and are you planning to make a course on flutter.

After that whole legal pickle Google got into with Oracle over the Java programming language, Google decided to stop using Java for developing its Android apps.
