As a experienced paraglider pilot i think those parachutes are cross-canopy (thats a reserve canopy that is light to store and it opens a bit faster than the old circular canopys) but they also have a tendence to travel in one direction to make the landing (with one chute) easier for the pilot. Thats also what causes the canopees to move away from each other, that means if you combine multible cross-rescues with each other they will always work against each other in a horizontal force this force is of corse negative to your descent rate its called scissor position.

To get more savety and also less rate of decend you have to get one big, or multible smaller ones without this forwards/sideways momentum.
Thatwould be a classic round canopy like you know from the military or bushplane rescue system.

If you combine your sick throwout mechanism with a better chute for this purpose i think it will be more save, controlled and maybe even faster opened.
