Been run a MRD for 15 years on the drz never had a problem. Yes you have to shim to fit.

You should check out an FCR carb. I kid you not, it made a MASSIVE difference. Especially for wheelies and low end instant power. While the old cv carb has delay getting to the main jet circuit, the pumper FCR has an accelerator pump that gives you fuel instantly as you whack the throttle open. I ride a lot of trails and it is wondrous!!

Every drz400 should have the kick start mod so the MRD is obsolete. Thanks for the heads up

You definitely don't have to remove the rivets on the back end of the pipe to repack it. You take out the 4 Allen's that hold the strap around the rear of the pipe and pull the whole thing out. Don't even have to remove the pipe from the bike to pull the guts out of the shell.
