The secret is videogame mentality: find the optimal level of challenge for you so that you can frequently cycle between (1) what you've already learned, (2) what you're currently trying to perfect and master, and (3) what's still new and challenging for you.

This way, you can have so much fun that you're hardly even phased by all the little failures and mistakes you make as you learn from them and make progress. You'll end up putting in so much time, attention and effort that you might not even realize how much hard work you're actually doing.

Having repeatedly gotten to those barriers, I've found that sometimes walking away for a break--playing video games or reading for a bit, even napping-- I tend to see where I went wrong very quickly, and if I don't, I can see how to get to the understanding of the actual process better.

Recently I had really hard time with learning Math, I felt so dumb like all my effort is pointless. Your words always help my mind to come back to the right route. Thank you so much!

I love it when I get to the point where I can't sleep and tell myself "I don't need to do this anymore" then you wake up in the am and get to work
When you come back from breaking point with a clear mind.

Right now it's 8am and I literally stayed up all night doing math hw and was able to answer 5 questions. Just what the doctor ordered. Thanks Sorcerer 💯

I’m so glad someone like you make a video like this to encourage people to learn math

I have interest in learning math and I do understand the importance of learning math, especially when it’s come to advanced academic study

But, on the other hand, I feel so depressed when learning math,
not just because math is super hard, but when I see my fellow schoolmates pick up and learning math way more faster than I do( I am Asian btw),
I feel so inferior compared to others, wondering what is the point of learning this if I could hardly pass the test or grasp the mathematical concepts

Once again, thank you for your encouragement

As someone in grad school, I cannot imagine _not_ getting stuck on just about anything. If something seems clear or obvious to me, I immediately get suspicious that I'm oversimplifying the idea.

Mathematics is a vast universe, easy to get lost. Helps to have a strong passion for it, but not a requirement. Gratifying to understand a proof, a structure, and how everything hangs together.

If math wasn't hard, it wouldn't be worth doing. Love your channel, you are such an inspiration 👍

I have a friend that I was going through the Calculus curriculum with who never struggled with math... but when we got into Calculus 2 that changed very quickly. He never developed strong studying skills for math because of how easy it came for him so the struggle hit him very hard.

I can't tell you how much I needed to hear this. So many times I slip into the type of thinking that I'm just not good at maths. Hearing this from a maths expert is so inspiring.

I’m currently taking an introductory Real Analysis course, and it’s by far the hardest math course I’ve ever taken. I’m getting answers wrong left and right, and have had countless thoughts of “I’m not good enough compared to others” and “if this is hard, imagine grad school.” I even thought of changing my major at one point, but what kept me going was interest and, now, figuring out that all I need is the mentality that you just explained extremely clearly, thank you very much The Math Sorcerer
