@tmon999 i figured it out. i had to take the right file and put it in my gopro. you forgot to say that the download comes with both the mac and pc zip files and u have to select which one goes in

If you don't see UP or it does not seem to install try putting the default setting back first.  Then try it again.  I'm still using my original Hero and had it setup for one button filming.  Would not install the firmware.  Turned that option back to the default and the firmware installed just like the video.  Worked on mine, go through the setting and see if that helps before doing the firmware.

*NOTE* If your sound is turned off you won't hear any beeps. And if you set the light to turn off it won't flash red either.

It's fine, it'll still work. Follow the steps and so long as you see "up" you'll be okay.

@GoProTutorials you might want to add those notes to the description.

And it'd be nice if you logged the changes in the firmware. The download is just firmware.bin. How about a readme with changes in it?

Mine only beeps 3 times, but I went ahead with the rest of the tutorial anyway, and it said "UP" for about 5 seconds and worked, so seems like it worked anyway.

I got the gopro Hero years ago, Just dragged it out, the sd card is write protected so I am unable to copy firmware.bin to it, even though I have tried sliding the usual thing in both positions to change the write protection. This step should also be included. I have a Sandisk Extreme that I assume was supplied with the unit, 16 gigs. 8-( The packaging in the beginning was confusing...I was more than 50 to 55 when I bought this.

i downloaded the firmware onto my gopro by plugging it into my computer. when i hold down the top button and press the button in the front (first thing it said to do in installing the firmware) it only beeps 3 times and the rest of the process wont work

mine only beeps three times when i try i can go through the settings just fine however when i hit shutter to record it beeps three times and does nothing

I was able to update it using their cineform studio software.

But when I put the SD-card in the camera and turn it on with the shutter button pressed down, it just beeps 3 times. When i press the power button 3 times (still holding the shutter button), the display shows "UP" and turns off immediately. No red led light.
So do I have the firmware installed? How do I know?

Mine would not update UNTIL i downloaded the manual, and reset ALL settings one by one to default.

Then I download from


The one removed any photos, DELETE all via the SET menu and then load card and all worked.


Hopefully nobody else will have issues, but if you do hopefully these directions will help
