Suraj On: New York, My First Love

I moved to New York City twelve years ago to attend law school at NYU and it became my first love.

Everyone who's here, whether they came here now or someone in their ancestry came here to NY — they all got told you're “dreaming too big” or “you've got to wait your turn."

That didn't stop them. They got on a boat, train, bus or plane and came to this city. It’s defined by aspiration and it’s a place of choice.

The only thing in this city that is not inspiring is it’s politics.

It’s the only thing we often don’t have choices. Because of that, it’s our obligation to change it. I’m willing to answer that call, I’m just giving you a choice.
