Slayer Seasons in the Abyss guitar solo with TAB

Slayer's first five records are all classic Thrash Metal albums but my favorite has always been Seasons in the Abyss. This one feels like the band took Reign in Blood and South of Heaven and mashed the best elements of both of them together. I also clearly remember seeing this video and Raining Blood Live on Much Music and just thinking to myself how heavy and amazing this band was. The problem I sometimes have with Metal is that it gets too extreme to the point of not being very musical. Slayer managed to push it as far it could go before it became labelled extreme Metal creating a perfect balance of Extreme scary aggression and Musicality. I usually compare Metal to Horror movies. You want to be scared but not too scared or else it just becomes uncomfortable.

Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman were both incredible guitar players. I heard from a critic that their soloing can often be compared to a Jackson Pollack painting. They have moments of what sounds like random chaos but they can also craft incredibly intricate and melodic solos. This is one of those solos. Vernon Reid is a good comparison. Musical order and chaos creates an exciting juxtaposition

Supremely badass. I may actually be able to learn this solo now.

I recall an interview Kerry King did for Total Guitar magazine back in the day

He described himself as “the most idiotic guitarist on the planet” and had a notebook full of scale shapes he’d look through so when it came time to record, he could find something that ‘fit’

Whilst he leans on Phrygian, Locrian and Phrygian Dom scales, he’s also more likely to use chromatic lines

“There's nothing that says playing out of key is wrong, " says King. "Of course, if you're thinking of what's traditionally accepted and bound by the 'rules of music, ' you might disagree. But to me, anything that sounds good is right. Or anything that sounds weird is right. Bend the rules!”

Great solo, but I focus more on the rhythm in the background. Kick butt.

I definitely feel like them two actually sat down and wrote solos for this album rather than just doing whammy bar wankery in the other albums before this one 😂
