My cousin was brought to America by Carlos for to custom build his guitars. My cousin visited my family for a few days and off to California he went. We have not heard from him since. Carlos was my favorite musician on guitar in those days, still is. To me he is King of Latin Soul and a very passionate soul himself. He has done a lot of good for a lot of people. I would love to sit down at a session with him and talk to him and listen while he played. The guitar is so much a part of Carlos that I couldn't see him live without it. I listened to him starting in the late 60's and became a huge fan in the 70's while serving in the Marines, later I find out about my cousin Jan. I and my parents are immigrants, having escaped communism in Czechoslovakia and obtaining sponsors here in America who helped us on our final journey here. Well, thank you Carlos for all you have musically done for me and my family. I love you my brother ! A friend always !

One unbelievably perfect morning my friend & I were hanging out at the Marina in Miami waiting to join our cruise ship that afternoon, just sitting there killing time people-watching and enjoying the moment. A pushcart vendor came by selling strawberry margaritas. Suddenly we heard Gloria's familiar voice behind us. She came strolling in alongside our table with her entire band and they started setting up to play ten feet in front of us. It was such a nice day they had decided it would be a great idea to put on a free concert for the people of Miami. Are you kidding me? We were dumbfounded. She, the band and the concert of course were incredible.

Speaking for myself only I recognize many distinctive guitar players in the music world, past and present. But none in my view have the cool, calm, collected sound of Carlos Santana. He is the master.

Gloria was the sound of Miami in the 80s and is still wonderful. Carlos's music takes me to another place, a place of joy and spiritual freedom. It is not possible to listen to his music and feel angry or sad, only joy. Los amo a los dos.
