im so glad you said this. lots of times younger artists are shamed for "cheating" or "copying", things like that. it makes it feel like you cant use inspo you find or grow whatsoever. thank you for putting out good messages for younger artists.

Thank you for this video! I’m a beginner artist and recently I’ve been struggling with finding my own art style. I’ve been struggling so much that I was thinking of quitting art all together because I felt that to be good at art, I would have to think of what to draw all on my own without copying or referencing other art that inspired me. This caused me to hate my artwork and not have fun while drawing. Now because of this video, I know that it’s ok to reference other art that inspires me in my own artwork in order to learn.

I actually recently went to a museum with my class and took pictures of some of the art there, especially this one statue, my “school sketchbook” as become my very own travel journal, cuz really, going to school is a journey, i have sketches from a beach trip my art program took us on and now pictures of this museum and college campus, i had so much fun sketching the stuff there, and i took so much inspiration from your travel journal, sketching builings and anything i found interesting, youre a true source of inspiration

i love studying other peoples art. not even necessarily drawing a study, but looking closely at the works of more experienced artists and taking it in as detailed in my mind as i can is how i have improved completely self taught-- although, i consider my role models my teachers even if theyre not directly guiding me.
