Phil Ochs' song, "Power and the Glory" written in 1963.

Correction: Phil Ochs died by his own hand in 1976, not 1965.

The final verse was cut in the official album, but recordings with all original verses survive.

I always thought this should be our national anthem. For the next few months, at least, it will be mine. Thank you for posting this.

Happy Birthday Phil. He'd be 84 today.

This song has never been more powerful than it is right now.

I always love the 2nd verse

“yet we’re only as rich as the poorest of the poor,
only as free as a padlock prison door,
only as strong as our love for this land,
only as tall as we stand”

Its so inclusive

I mean this in the most loving way, the audio of this video sounds like it was required on a potato.

Why was that verse removed? Like I get how it’s controversial but it should still be in the song.
