ADDING A RAISED BED TO A ROCK WALL — PART TWO
Five years ago when I was very, very ill — my dear wife took over many things I should have helped with but just couldn’t. A landscape company carved away much of the one corner of our back yard. They removed many bamboo rhizomes heading towards our house. We wanted to keep the bamboo stand so they also installed a bamboo barrier system. When installing the barrier, they encountered an endless amount of huge stones. My wife suggested they pile them in front of the deep bamboo barrier and bamboo stand. Until very recently, I sort of ignored that wall — but being a dry stacked rock wall builder in my past — I decided the wall needed attention.
We are still in the process of redoing portions of the wall now. Getting up into the terrace of the bamboo stand was quite tricky and unsafe. I decided to add a natural looking set of stone steps. My wife and I also thought the irregularities of the wall’s “flow” lended itself to a creative solution. We added a raised bed where we could solve the irregularities and subsequently plant some shade-loving vegetation.
Thanks for watching.
