For people who are asking why bother if COSC already certifies chronometers. Reasons are really threefold:
1.Bragging rights. Tradition of the watchmaking industry.
2.COSC only tests movements. Not watches in their cases. METAS tests a finished device.
3.Why not? I think it's beautiful that people do things just because. Because why not. Why not push the boundaries just that little bit more.

So much inaccurate information in these comments...

Step 1. Master Chronometer movements are first submitted to COSC for Chronometer Certification which tests in 5 positions and the final results must be accurate to -4/+6 seconds a day. Mathematically, that's already 99.9% accurate.

Step 2. After the movement passes COSC, the entire watch is assembled and sent to a second independent body, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). The watch is tested now in 6 positions with the final results being accurate to -0/+5 seconds a day and must also withstand shocks up to 5, 000 G and magnetism beyond 15, 000 Gauss.

It is not Omega testing their watches in-house like Jaeger-LeCoultre 1000 Hours Control or Rolex Superlative Chronometers.

Way too many HATERS here!!!! It's a watch and a very expensive watch. Don't buy if you don't like it. Plain and simple. Don't waste time arguing with people about certifications. No one cares, unless you have a mission to the world of proving people wrong about material thing.

As a person who repairs watches, i have people tell me they don't wear/want/need a watch. And watches are a waste. Watches are for "x" type of people. The craft is dying. etc. etc. I don't see how Omega could take on such a task with all the testing and building if this was a trade that was dead, or that no one is interested in. Nice to see that there is still a market for a high quality timepiece! It's a bit like performance cars. With the regulations and everything, this is still the best time to buy a performance car!! Same goes for watches. A lot of awesome stuff out there. By the way Omega, can I set up shop at your place? lol

I like the innovation that Omega puts in. But they should've kept the 2500D movement and advertised their SMPc more, then improve upon the SMPc base. Just because it was never worn by Bond doesn't mean it wasn't one of their finest creations ever. Now their watches are paying the price with the insane thickness from the "Master Coaxial" movement that is a giant chunk of 15mm thick metal that people aren't buying or putting back on the used market rather rapidly.

My Seamaster PO 600 Master Chronometer is slow with about +3 sec / day. This is perfect in the specification from 0 to +5 seconds / day.
Great work, OMEGA !!!
Another Sinn 103 of mine with a Valjoux 7750 is slow with almost a minute per day!
