To understand this, 0°C = 273.15°K (Kelvin)
The Kelvin scale is the only temperature scale starting at absolute zero, meaning, its numbers can actually be added propperly.
So: 273.15°K + 273.15°K = 546.3°K ≈ 523, 67°F = 273.15°C

To convert from °C to °K is easy, just +273.15 and your Celsius becomes Kelvin. Fahrenheit though, is Imperial, and thereby has awfull conversion:
(°F -32) x 5/9 + 273.15 = °K
