Gas Grill vs Charcoal. The battle of the ages. Is Charcoal grills better than gas grills? Which is better? In this video, we test out both grills a few different experiences. The first test, we use a temp gun to see which pan gets hotter faster. The second test, we grill two new york strip steaks and do a blind taste test. Lastly, we do a test doing low and slow pork ribs and share our final review.

I just purchased my first house and I’m about to invest to a good grill.
This video was the first one I saw after looking “gas grill vs charcoal grill” and I don’t need to watch another one!
Good informative video. Thanks for your time!

Awesome comparison video! I loved all the different tests rather than just claiming an answer based on one thing. Getting your daughters involved was adorable, and they’re clearly loving all your bbq being able to identify what was what correctly.

My 4th grill is a Weber Performer and love the charcoal. But I do miss the easy of the gas grill. If I had a bigger cover patio I would get one of each! Thanks for sharing this excellent video! 🔥

Super creative comparison! For the longest I was a gas grill girl but lately I've been leaning toward a charcoal grill.

Food tests with kids seem to be so much more hones and to the point. Thanks for comparing! great video

Cool comparison, I’m definitely a charcoal, wood person. That being said you can cook up some good food on a gas grill, and then you got the intermediate pellet cooker which has the convenience of gas but more smoke flavor. Awesome job Scott!

Please can someone explain to me the point of propane grill? I mean if I wanna cook steak using gas, may as well use cast iron skillet so I can butter paste with garlic and thyme which infuse more flavor. Also I do t have to clean the grate. The charcoal gives Smokey charred flavor. And it’s not even hard to clean with charcoal grill.

I suspected the outcome but interesting to see the details of your results. Also, looks like you have a pretty good in house team of willing tasters.

Without even watching, I know the answer. I cooked on a gas grill for 20 years while my wife and I started our careers and raised our kids. Gas grills are decent cooking machines and don’t take a lot of start-up time or clean-up. Now my kids are living their own lives and I have more time to “tend the fire”. Gas was better those first 20 years and charcoal is better now.

Awesome video, I wanted to do something similar and really like how you compared both methods. I wish the Mrs would let me include her like that...maybe I can do it with the kids 😉

Very interesting information. I will revert to this video when it's time for me to get myself a grill.🥰 Think I'm leaning towards the gas grill though.

I know the Charcoal tasted better when you took 2 bite’s and only one on the gas. Great demonstration

You have a beautiful family. I think the video speaks for itself when you had 1 bite of the gas rib, followed by cleaning half the bone of the charcoal rib. Although I go to my joe every time now, I do find myself enjoying the side burner of the gas grill.

Thank you, man, for the comparison. I'm about to buy a new grill.

funny thing is if your a guy who uses charcoal, and strike up a conversation with someone who uses gas, you may be at a loss for words. Same goes with the "set-it-and-forget-it" pellet grill guys. All I can say is "at least your doing it" That being said, if you have ever noticed almost all competition cookers/chefs use charcoal. Reason being is you have more variables to tweak the outcome of the finished product. You can't do a "snake method" with gas. And there's only one way to smoke with gas. There's no glory in pellet grills, because you're not really tending the food. Charcoal needs no external power, such as gas or electricity, so if your good at using charcoal, you can cook anywhere, and even use an inexpensive table top grill, even sneaking in wood chips from time to time to smoke. Pellet grills can cavitate, while your away, and you lose all heat. Sometimes in conversation if someone says they use gas or a pellet smoker, I tell them I do it the hard way. From what I have noticed, is that most guys who like to cook, or are gourmet, or chefs, use charcoal, and/or wood. I personally like to cook and am very picky about my finished product. Example: Hand cut vs. machine.
"Yes!" It takes more time. But it's about the finished product. You may get some serious results with gas, but your friends and family are not going to criticize you. I don't want false gratification, and I will also admit, I have screwed up a lot of food. But I have also got some of the best and most sincere compliments to some of my preparations, and have even exceeded some methods used by champions. There's a little science involved. Use whatever you want. Gas is easy, and so are pellet grills. But if you have time and want to get really deep into the art of grilling, BBQ'ing, smoking, or whatever you want to call it, you will have more variables using charcoal and wood. One more thing is if you can learn to mix your own spices for rubs and apply them in a good fashion, you may be a competitor. It all takes time, and a little trial and error. Just do what ever you want, but "do-it-yourself"

I’ve got a couple smokers a couple Kamado Joes and a Weber gas grill and sometimes when I get home late after climbing poles all day I fire up my gas Weber cook a couple steaks get in get out and have a beer. Wouldn’t give up my beloved gas grill ever . In my opinion quality gas grills matter and make a big difference.

Charcoal is way better, no comparison. Gas is way more convenient. I say have both, gas for during the workweek and Charcoal for days off. Then when you have company over you can have both going. Use the Charcoal for the low and slow and the gas for the hot dogs and beer brats.
