Implementing a Learning Management System - Part 5 | How to Implement an LMS

Welcome to this new series from Telania where we show you how to implement an LMS. No matter what your purposes are, if you follow this guide by watching each video in this series, you'll be implementing a learning management system in no time.

In today's video, we'll be continuing from where we left off in the previous video in this series.

It's time to begin the contract review phase. Before you start implementing your learning management system, you need to finalize the contract.

First, make sure you're treating everything like a long-term relationship.

Also, make sure you do your due diligence and get your legal department or dedicated legal counsel to carefully review the contract before signing it.

Next, sort out your on-premise solutions. For an on-premise LMS, be sure you've negotiated the price of all types of future releases for the duration of the contract and what those releases will include.

Another thing to establish is training. Make sure the contract is detailed about what training is offered and it's cost.

Next, make sure you are protecting your company when you sign the contract by reading the parts of the contract that serves to protect your company. You want to be sure you're not inadvertently granting total vendor access to your company!

Also, make sure you're establishing what will happen when your company experiences changes and needs to add in new functionality. Make sure you identify all the different areas where you could get charged additionally.

Something to remember is to sort out your miscellaneous considerations. For LMS that have a library of courses available to customers, is there a cost associated with using the vendor's course library?

Finally, for multi-year contracts, make sure there is an exit clause.
