I loved Siouxsie's music from the start. She has never made a bad record.

Brilliant footage! Loved it. What a great song and I was not expecting such a reaction from the panel who on the first impression comes across as 1970s conservative types with the exception of John Lydon but hello, hello, hello... what a "playground twist" indeed! Johnny turned out to be a snob in this.... he always had that patronising, "I am the only true artist" type thing about him. Who cares? This is a great song. Don't need validation from either conservatives or subversives.

A veteran DJ, John Lydon, Joan Collins, Elaine Page, very diverse panel, Sioxsie's voice and the revolutionary sound of the Banshees music being recognised for its merit and importance in the post punk era. In 1979 The Banshees were at the forefront of music, and their stature continued to grow in the years to follow. S ioxsies voice is completely unique, impossible to imitate, carries an ethereal and beautiful power which still holds the listener captivated and entranced today.

OMG 😲.. how spot on was Alan Freeman. Love Elaine's comments too. Even though the 2 of the members left The Banshees shortly after this song was released

Siouxsie And The Banshees had more longevity and popularity that John Lydon ever had.

The Julie Driscoll ref was interesting, given that they would go on to cover THIS WHEEL'S ON FIRE, which she also did.

The reason he acted like that was because he knew it was really fucking good and he was trying to act like he didn't care. But, he did. The Banshees were far better than PiL.

Who ever the first guys is who comments, he says what I've beens saying for yyyeeeearrrs. Siouxise's vocals remind me of Julie Driscoll, Nico, and Grace Slick. Bryan Ferry too.

Nice to see that, even in 1979, Siouxsie was being recognized for what she always has been before and since. Wonder what was Johnny's bag w/ "Next one, please..." Was he already disturbed by how much S&TB had become even by only their second album? Sour grapes, perhaps? It seems he's had it in for them ever since The Scream.

Good old Alan, that's what I say ..considering Mr Lydon always has opinions, shame he didn't have any here .... Give me siouxsie over rotten any day

Rotten's surly because it's obvious Siouxsie and the Banshees is a better band than PIL.

What I find really interesting is how in 1985-86-87, Joan Collins was wearing babushkas on DYNASTY; soon thereafter, so was Sioux, in her videos and TV performances. So, I wonder if Sioux is a fan of Joan's?

John Lydon - fearless champion of telling it like it is, except here for some reason, where he cops out of giving an opinion and still tries desperately hard to show he's cool.

What is the last name of the guest Alain ? Was he an actor ? What a good flair he had, he predicted that << Siouxsie and the Banshees will be around for a long time I think she has a lot of talent. >>

A bit disappointed with mr Lydon, scorning a decisive record in the Banshees career; as a single Playground Twist's impact scars for life and it's the natural segue to the Scream and the revelation of what would be inside Join hands. Lydon, in my very disappointed humble estimation, instead of doing a sham voice of a generation number and supporting the Banshees as his 'old' cohorts with the Contingent following the Pistols everywhere, he'd rather use his disarming/allarming deadpan cold honesty. Nothing against it. But..., the resulting image is a couldn't-care-less attitude, spiteful to the point of betraying insecurity, something he publicly admitted having spent ages trying to overcome . Musically speaking, The Banshees were his direct rivals in those 1978-1980 years. They had tons of musical potential. Both bands' first two albums are approximately on a par, despite different musical expressions under the same genre's banner, that of pure afterpunk, as it were in 1978's stifling wet summer aiming at the surrealistic 1979, perhaps the most agitated year of the decade. Some people even say the eighties were born premature but kicking ass. Now, the problem for Rotten was that he felt he had to improve his faux para-krautrock impersonation of the Battle of Trafalgar ( as Python would put it) pumping and hypnotizing on first issue and metalbox, and refill it with freshly oxygenated blood, The outcome was Flowers of Romance that sounded vaguely seducing at times but lacked consistency. Meanwhile, the Banshees had released Kaleidoscope and Juju, their best in their first Tetralogy. And the second Tetralogy until 88's Peepshow, starts with the case-study on classical Psychedelia, their 5th album already, titled A Kiss in the dream house. I've written too much and indeed don't need to go on…
