The Park, represented by three voices, is a sentient being, aware of its own nature as a place of contemplation. Here The Park recounts the memory of an event which has affected the way it sees itself and its function: a woman enters a secluded section early one morning, and after sitting on a bench for a while, douses herself with gasoline and sets herself on fire, with only The Park as her witness. The Park protects her from the view of others in her private, tragic moment, but is frustrated by the passivity of its existence.
