I had the opportunity a few years ago to meet VDH. Such an honest intellectual who seamlessly weaves poignant history into what we're seeing today with spot on relevancy. He's the real deal.

Not only a smart and wise man, but what a nice fellow as well. No better example of American decency. Good work by Tucker to let his guest talk and not make it about him. God bless you all in America (from Australia).

I figured out what I love about VDH. He's an intellectual, but he's not an elite. He's a very uncommon common-man thinker.

Listen to this man … and buy this book - any book he writes. (Thank you, Mr. Carlson for encouraging VDH to talk about his formative years and giving him time to answer your questions and share his “sober and judicious” views.)

Undisputed: VDH is a national treasure.

I would challenge this - VDH as a Blue Collar Intellectual.

I think the better characterization (with some context) is this:
- Victors mother was a judge and his father was an educational administrator. His parents did not farm. His grandparents did.

He came from a very educated family (they voted Democrat) - and Victor went to Santa Cruz (undergrad) then Stanford PhD (with studies in Athens). Victor is highly educated, high intellect. But his is not blue collar.

His parents told him - ‘try keep the farm’ - ie get a non-farm income. So after some years putting the family farm back together (with brothers) - he then went and started the classics program at Fresno State - he clearly was an awesome educator of the Classics.

I would say a more accurate characterization of VDH is this:

He is highly educated and intellectual- yet grounded in the pragmatism of farming, working, physical labor, and he was loyal to his property and community (a farming community) - and has great empathy for what the labor class does at work - and how they are organized in Fresno and Central Valley California.

Like the Greeks- who thought the all round person was a blend of the mind and body - intellectual and the physical - we can think of Victor living up to this ideal - highly intellectual, pragmatism of rural upbringing and community.

I grew up with a background. I have two degrees in engineering and essentially a law degree. I have been on, lived, and worked on every continent other than Antarctica. I thank God everyday that I have real true friends of every background culture and economic class. I am who I am because of who, how and the environment I was raised in. Hopefully my children were raised the same way.
God save you good sirs. Without the YALL we are doomed.

Tucker, why r u still w Fox? I consider THAT a sell out. VDH is "my guy". I tell my grandkids, "Be quiet, my guy is on." I quit Fox COLD after the election-how they acted. "My guy" is great, as usual. Judy Craig, 72.
