I'm from Latvia and it's a national celebration here now. So, I'm a bit biased here, but I also think that The Wild Robot was a great movie. Flow was something special for me, for the creators and for the whole country.

Someone said somewhere that Flow have shown so much humanity in it without having no humans at all.

It 100% deserved it. As an adult I'm sick of cookie cutter plots by Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks. This was different and it was amazing. It was perfect.

I just happened to watch flow the morning of the Oscar's... and I couldn't stop after I started. Any other year the wild robot would probably win, but for a change I think the academy got it right this year.

A film that said a lot without a single word. Wining the Oscar for Animated Feature Film was the best part of the whole ceremony...For me !!!

I watched Flow in cinema and highly enjoyed it throughout. Having background knowledge about it being a Latvian tiny-budget, passion project made in Blender added to the overall appreciation. With Golden Globe in the bag and two Oscar nominations - incredible! Anything that can push off Disney/Pixar has my support.
The audience had teens and several adults with or without small children. The children kept quiet during the movie, then got bored a 3rd into it. When we where leaving, I heard a mother say "well, yeah, it’s not like the princess movies" in a kinda apologetic tone to her kid. I think Flow is refreshing air of storytelling in contrast to modern, attention hooking, fast-talking and quirky media. With Flow, we slow down between hectic scenes, get some time to breathe and enjoy the environment and character interactions. With no dialogue you have to fully commit to watch the body language and emphasise with all the characters. And Flow does is brilliantly. So parents, please enjoy this little story with your family. And who knows, your kid might one day recall that one movie about a black cat with other animals on a journey and try to look everywhere to find it again. I had same feeling back then with Totoro and The Incredible Journey.

Yes. I was in an audience of 30. After the credits rolled, most of us sat there holding on to the experience.

To be fair it also won the Golden Globe so it wasn't a one off. The amount of rewards this movie got was insane from all around the planet. I'm also a biased Latvian and we're literally celebrating and waiting for the team to come home waiting at our freedom monument because that's how it much it meant.

Fun fact, the golden globe and oscar statues will be in our national museum for a time to see :D

Thank you. I was a big fan of three other nominees in the Best Animated Feature category, but FLOW completely overwhelmed me. It's the closest I've seen to poetry in a movie. Yes, it deserved to win. And I'll be first on line to see whatever this filmmaker chooses to do next.

"I like The Wild Robot a little bit more than Flow, but I think Flow should have won the Oscar."
This. THIS! It perfectly sums up my own conflicted feelings about the contest between these two films. The Wild Robot was my second favorite movie of the year, but Flow pushes boundaries and is made in an animation style very different from the standard-issue CGI that has come to dominate the industry. Flow's victory is a big stab in the eye to that "Voter #5" who complained that two "Chinese f***ing things" (The Tale of Princess Kaguya and Song of the Sea) were nominated for 2017's Best Animated Feature Oscar instead of the super-popular LEGO Movie.

I only wish Academy voters were more receptive to voting for animated features outside the big movie studios back when Wolfwalkers was nominated.

Flow completely deserved the win. It haunts you long after the credits in a way that the other nominees dont.

as a person from latvia, this is surreal, like were just a small eastern european country and i thought we would never be known in this big world, but i guess i was wrong

If you want people to take risks, then you have to give awards to people who take them. Flow is just as beautiful as any previous winners. Definitely a must watch.

Cuando ganó Flow fue el momento más feliz de toda la ceremonia. Flow lo merecía al 100% y más. Hermosa película. Salidos desde México!

Flow is a beautiful movie. And the feat in animation to get it done of a home setup is incredible

I agree on what he says . As he says most animated movies have cookie cutter plots, dialogue that's well terrible, bad jokes and predictable plots. But Flow is not just one of the best animated movies I've seen, but one of the best all around movies I've seen in a long time. And the scene with the bird on the mountain brought a tear to my eyes. I've watched it three times. Still waiting on the physical media release. Flow is now in my top five favorite movies of all time.

I’m not gonna lie… The Wild Robot was definitely my favourite animated movie of 2024… In fact, it’s now my top favourite animated movie. That being said, as cliche as it sounds, I wanted Flow to win the Oscar the most. I agree that it’s a beautiful and lovingly made film, rich with talent. But it winning the Oscar is special because I know it will mean a lot to the animation industry, being a low-budget, essentially independently made movie (without any dialogue as well!). Very inspiring to people like me, who dream of making films like this that aren’t built around just the ideas big corporations have nowadays (not gonna point fingers, but… Disney), but rather about telling meaningful stories.

As much as I like Inside Out 2, and loved Wallace And Grommit In Vengeance Most Fowl and The Wild Robot, I am totally happy with Flow winning.

I loved the Wild Robot but I will say Flow was definetly better animated and I was able to enjoy it without voices. It was a fun watch.
