How much to reside a house yourself? The materials to install the best quality vinyl siding on an estimated area of 546 square feet was $3.45 per square. This 1952 home had wood siding. I believe it may have been poplar wood. In 1970, I think that the original lead paint was failing and the house needed to be repainted and the siding was chosen over painting the wood siding. I was told by a neighbor who was an original owner of his home that they put asbestos cement siding over top of the wood on both my house and his. A homeowner can remove asbestos cement siding. That's what I did, I removed the old siding and with the help of a friend, we put up new vinyl siding.
